In an effort to expedite the publication of articles related to the COVID-19 pandemic, AJHP is posting these manuscripts online as soon as possible after acceptance. Accepted manuscripts have been peer-reviewed and copyedited, but are posted online before technical formatting and author proofing. These manuscripts are not the final version of record and will be replaced with the final article (formatted per AJHP style and proofed by the authors) at a later time.

Preserved ratio impaired spirometry, airflow obstruction, and their trajectories in relationship to chronic kidney disease: a prospective cohort study.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Endocrinology, Beijing Tongren Hospital, Capital Medical University, No.2, Xihuan South Road, Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone, Daxing District, Beijing, China.

Spirometry findings, such as restrictive spirometry and airflow obstruction, are associated with renal outcomes. Effects of spirometry findings such as preserved ratio impaired spirometry (PRISm) and its trajectories on renal outcomes are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the impact of baseline and trajectories of spirometry findings on future chronic kidney disease (CKD) events.

A Spiropyran-Based Hydrogel Composite for Wearable Detectors to Monitor Visible Light Intensity to Prevent Myopia.

ACS Appl Mater Interfaces

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Advanced Textile Materials & Manufacturing Technology, Ministry of Education, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, 928 Second Avenue, 310018 Hangzhou, China.

A wearable detector to monitor visible light intensity is realized by the restrained photochromism of a hydrogel composite containing light-responsive spiropyran with hydroxyl groups (SPOH). When exposed to visible light, the SPOH experiences a ring-opening to a ring-closed transition accompanied by discoloration from red to yellow. Unlike in the solution, the photochromism/discoloration rate is strongly correlated to the cross-linking points.

Bubble coalescence principle in saline water.

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A

February 2025

School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, China University of Mining and Technology, Xuzhou 221116, China.

Bubbles present in saline water typically exhibit a prolonged lifetime, making them attractive for various engineering processes. Herein, we unveil a transition from delayed bubble coalescence to rapid bursting within about one millisecond in salty solutions. The key aspect in understanding this transition lies in the combined influences of surface deformation and ion surface excess instead of characterizing the ions alone.

No updated data on people living with HIV (PLHIV) in Japan have been available since 2015, leaving a critical gap in understanding the current status of care and treatment. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a nationwide evaluation of the second and third goals of the "90-90-90 target" defined by UNAIDS between 2016 and 2020. The study utilized data from approximately 360 core hospitals through structured questionnaires and the National Database of Health Insurance Claims and Specific Health Checkups (NDB).

Colombia currently hosts nearly three million Venezuelan refugees and migrants and is home to seven million internally displaced Colombians. For forcibly displaced populations in Colombia, and especially for women, gender-based violence (GBV) poses a threat during transit and in their new homes where xenophobia, lack of accessible and adequate services, limited safe economic opportunities, and lack of information on access to services, further increase risk. The dearth of livelihood opportunities also affects forcibly displaced populations, especially women.
