Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a new emerging pandemic, which has so far infected more than 20 million people throughout the world. Typically, this infection is transmitted from humans to humans via respiratory contact. However, the possibility that COVID-19 might be transmitted via atypical modes of transmission is an important public health consideration. In this short review article, the author summarizes and discusses the data on atypical modes of COVID-19 transmission. Based on the available data, it seems that there is still no evidence that COVID-19 can be transmitted via atypical modes of transmission.

Current models of psychedelic action in the brain propose changes along the dorsal-ventral and anterior-posterior axes but neglect to address the lateral axis. This article proposes a novel model of psychedelic action called HEALS (Hemispheric Annealing and Lateralization Under Psychedelics) which involves the reversal of the typical hierarchical relationship between the two hemispheres of the brain. In typical modes of consciousness, the hemispheres act in parallel process with the left predominating.

Density functional theory calculations and a finite deformation method are used to calculate second- and, most notably, third-order elastic constants of amorphous silicon and amorphous silicon dioxide, as represented by model structures generated via melt-quench force-field molecular dynamics simulations. Linear and nonlinear elastic constants are used to deduce macroscopic elastic moduli, such as the bulk and shear moduli, their pressure derivatives, and the elastic Grüneisen parameter. Our calculations show that the elastic properties of amorphous silicon reach the isotropic elastic limit within the nanometer length scale, attaining characteristics, both linear and nonlinear, comparable to those of crystalline silicon.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to analyze how face masks influence speech perception and time spent looking at the speaker's mouth and eyes by adults with and without hearing loss.
Method: Twenty participants with hearing loss and 20 without were asked to repeat Spanish words presented in various conditions, including different types of face masks (no mask, transparent window mask, and opaque mask FFP2) and presentation modes (audiovisual, video only, and audio only). Recognition accuracy and the percentage of time looking at the speaker's eyes and mouth (dwell time) were measured.

Reversible covalent kinase inhibitors (RCKIs) are a class of novel kinase inhibitors attracting increasing attention because they simultaneously show the selectivity of covalent kinase inhibitors yet avoid permanent protein-modification-induced adverse effects. Over the last decade, RCKIs have been reported to target different kinases, including Atypical group of kinases. Currently, three RCKIs are undergoing clinical trials.
