Given the rapidly increasing global demand for food, it is mandatory to consider new sources of nutrients, safe and sustainably produced protein foods to complement the current traditional and limited sources of protein in the human diet. In recent years, a wide range of nontraditional protein foods have been explored, prompting the European Union to legislate on how novel foods can be introduced and traded on the European market to ensure their safety. This review will illustrate the range of novel foods authorized in the EU and their potential impact on human health, highlighting the gaps, the potential risks, and the future research opportunities and perspectives.

Background: Growing evidence indicates that metal implants influence the body's oxidative stress status, which in turn affects the degradation and stability of metal implants. The oxidative balance score (OBS) is a composite indicator, reflecting the overall oxidative balance of pro-and antioxidants of the human body. However, the associations between OBS and the level of metal ions on the population with metal implants remain to be elucidated.

Increasing evidence points toward vitamin D (VD) having lipometabolism and immune-related properties to protect against related metabolic diseases through influencing DNA methylation with inconsistent results. Simultaneously, its relatively precise molecular metabolism on the progression of metabolic-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) remains uncertain. Here, we report an unprecedented role and possible mechanism for VD supplementation on the alleviation of high-fat diet (HFD)-induced MAFLD.

In recent years, food allergies and food sensitivities have remained critical public health problems that affect approximately 15% of the global population. Wheat is a major food source worldwide, but it is also a common food allergen. Celiac disease is chronic immune-mediated enteropathy triggered by exposure to dietary gluten in genetically predisposed individuals; it can be treated only through strict gluten avoidance.

Unlabelled: The present study evaluated the effects of 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF) and aqueous extract on diabetes. An in silico docking study with select bioactive compounds showed strong binding affinities of folates with glucose metabolism-related proteins. In vitro assay showed 5-MTHF's superior inhibitory activity on alpha-amylase compared to folic acid.
