Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess safety and efficiency of multiarterial coronary bypass grafting using bilateral internal thoracic arteries in T-graft technique performed by trainees.

Methods: Patients from January 2005 to February 2023 who had undergone multiarterial coronary bypass grafting using bilateral internal thoracic arteries in T-graft technique were analysed. Patients were divided into 2 groups based on the primary surgeon: consultant and trainees.

Background:  Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is one of the revascularization modalities available in patients with left ventricular dysfunction (LVD). Multiple arterial grafting (MAG) is associated with improved long-term outcomes. Data on the benefits of MAG in patients with LVD are limited.

The effect of multiarterial (MA) versus single arterial (SA) coronary bypass graft surgery on postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) was not investigated. From May 2017 to May 2024, the patients with CYP2C19*2 or *3 allele receiving coronary artery grafting and postoperational aspirin 100 mg/day and clopidogrel 75 mg/day were retrospectively reviewed and assigned to the MA or SA group. The primary end point was the incidence rate of POAF in the first week.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess if using multiple arterial grafts in redo coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) offers any advantages over using a single arterial graft.
  • Over a 40-year period, researchers examined data from 6,559 patients who underwent isolated redo CABG, matching those who received multiarterial grafts with those who received single arterial grafts to evaluate in-hospital complications and long-term survival.
  • Results indicated that multiarterial grafting was linked to lower in-hospital mortality and better long-term survival rates, especially in males with two internal thoracic artery grafts.
