Milk and dairy products are major sources of protein, calcium, and other micronutrients. Milk and dairy products contribute with approximately half of the total intake of saturated fat in the Nordic and Baltic diets. Saturated fat is an important determinant of plasma total and low density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol concentrations, and a causal relationship between high LDL-cholesterol and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease has consistently been documented.

Obesity is a chronic, multifactorial disease characterized by persistent low-grade tissue and systemic inflammation. Fat accumulation in adipose tissue (AT) leads to stress and dysfunctional adipocytes, along with the infiltration of immune cells, which initiates and sustains inflammation. Background: During lactation, maternal requirements for many nutrients increase due to the physiological demands of breast milk production, reflected in dietary recommendations. BMI is negatively associated with dietary quality postpartum, and 40% of women in Norway have pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity. Currently, there is limited data on dietary intake among lactating women in Norway and whether they meet nutritional requirements.

A global analysis of dairy consumption and incident cardiovascular disease.

The role of dairy products in cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention remains controversial. This study investigates the association between dairy consumption and CVD incidence using data from the China Kadoorie Biobank and the UK Biobank, complemented by an updated meta-analysis. Among Chinese participants, regular dairy consumption (primarily whole milk) is associated with a 9% increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) and a 6% reduced risk of stroke compared to non-consumers.

Purpose: We aimed to assess the changes in body fat distribution, intraorgan lipid accumulation, and cardiometabolic risk factors after 6 months of gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) in transgender men (TM) and transgender women (TW).

Methods: Conducted at the Medical University of Vienna between 2019 and 2022, the study included 15 TW and 20 TM. We conducted magnetic resonance imaging and spectroscopy to determine the visceral (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) amounts, the VAT/SAT ratio, and the intraorgan lipid content (liver, pancreas, myocardium), bloodwork, and an oral glucose tolerance test at baseline and after 6 months of GAHT.
