Pericardial effusion has been identified as a rare cause of hyponatremia. In most patients, pericardiocentesis results in rapid correction. We describe a 67-year-old male who presented with pericardial effusion-associated hyponatremia secondary to cardiac resynchronization therapy-D placement that resolved following evacuation. In addition, we review the literature on pericardial effusion-associated hyponatremia.

Objectives: The primary objective of this study is to analyze the clinical manifestations, diagnostic procedures, and outcomes of patients with pathologically confirmed constrictive pericarditis who presented with bilateral pleural effusions. We aim to outline a stepwise diagnostic approach that could assist clinicians in identifying CP in similar cases.
Methods: In this study, we conducted a retrospective analysis of 19 cases of pathologically confirmed constrictive pericarditis.

An 80-year-old man with a history of Bence-Jones potein (BJP) λ-type multiple myeloma (MM), which had been in remission for 16 years, was examined for shortness of breath and was found to have bilateral pleural and pericardial effusions. A pleural fluid test and a pleural biopsy under local anaesthesia performed by a previous physician failed to make the diagnosis. Despite diuretic therapy, his condition necessitated frequent thoracentesis.

Pericarditis is a well-known complication of hypothyroidism. Although pericarditis and pericardial effusions have been reported as rare complications of hyperthyroidism in adults, they are rarely reported in the pediatric population. In this case report, we describe a 12-year-old, previously healthy girl with nighttime chest pain, dyspnea, tachycardia, and abnormal thyroid function studies consistent with hyperthyroidism who was found to have pericarditis and pericardial effusion requiring pericardiocentesis.
