Background: An ecological correlation has been observed between licensed premises and alcohol-related violence (ARV). In the UK to date, no evidence directly connects alcohol-related harm to a single premises type. Recent policies have called for a diversified alcohol offer, yet quantitative evidence in support remains sparse. This study aims to inform policy by determining whether diversification of the alcohol economy is desirable and to inform the licensing process and submission of public health evidence.
Methods: Using 11 years of local licensing data from the London Borough of Southwark, alcohol availability over time was approximated by the number of extant alcohol licences, categorised by outlet type: drinking establishments, eateries, takeaways, off-sales and 'other'. Harm was quantified drawing on law enforcement intelligence that recorded ARV. A linked data set was analysed using negative binomial regression, contrasting cumulative impact zones (CIZ)-a common alcohol control policy-with non-CIZ geographies.
Results: Each licensed drinking establishment was associated with a 1.6% (95% CI 0.7% to 2.6%; p=0.001) increase in ARV, respectively. 'Other' outlets had a protective effect and were associated with a 1.8% (95% CI 1.0% to 2.5%; p<0.001) decrease in ARV.
Conclusion: This study provides direct evidence for an association between alcohol-related harm and licensed premises. The varying associations between outlet type and ARV provide local public health stakeholders with an evidence base upon which to advocate for licensing policies that diversify alcohol availability.

Premise: Common steps in phylogenomic matrix production include biological sequence concatenation, morphological data concatenation, insertion/deletion (indel) coding, gene content (presence/absence) coding, removing uninformative characters for parsimony analysis, recording with reduced amino acid alphabets, and occupancy filtering. Existing software does not accomplish these tasks on a phylogenomic scale using a single program.
Methods And Results: BAD2matrix is a Python script that performs the above-mentioned steps in phylogenomic matrix construction for DNA or amino acid sequences as well as morphological data.

The aim of this study was to explore how stakeholders perceive illicit drugs at licensed premises, existing and potential prevention interventions, and to identify facilitators and barriers to reduce illicit drugs at these locations. Semi-structured interviews with police officers, licensed premises owners, security staff and municipality officials ( = 28) in seven counties in middle Sweden were conducted and analysed using qualitative content analysis. The informants reported frequent illicit drug use and dealing at licensed premises, causing a negative influence on the restaurant environment.

This work presents a contribution to reduce the conservatism in nonlinear observer for TakagiSugeno fuzzy systems with unmeasurable premise variables based on the mean value theorem. The conservatism was reduced through the use of non-quadratic Lyapunov function (NQLF) rather than the quadratic form used in previous works. The stability conditions are given in the form of Bilinear Matrix Inequalities (BMI) whereby an effective solution to solve this type of problem is presented using linear solvers which are characterized by their computational efficiency.

Background: In 1996, a multicomponent community-based alcohol prevention program in Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) targeting licensed premises was developed by STAD (Stockholm Prevents Alcohol and Drug Problems) and implemented in Stockholm, Sweden. The program consists of community mobilization and collaboration, training, and enforcement. Early evaluations have shown a significant increase in the refusal rates of alcohol service to intoxicated patrons, from 5% in 1996 to 70% in 2001, and a 29% decrease in the frequency of police-reported violence.
