Although binge eating disorder (BED) is a recent diagnostic category, research for efficacious and effective treatment is well underway. This case study describes a dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills group for BED implemented in an outpatient community clinic. Although based on Safer, Telch, and Chen's (2009) manual for BED and bulimia nervosa (BN), notable adaptations included shortening the group's duration from 20 to 12 weeks, adding an interpersonal effectiveness module and DBT-informed "Holiday Plan" worksheets, and providing inclement weather alternatives. Despite the added challenges associated with winter treatment of BED (e.g., holiday meals, weather-related schedule interruptions), the 3 women who completed treatment no longer met criteria for BED at termination and their feedback suggested that the treatment was highly acceptable. Group members demonstrated clinically significant reductions in disordered eating behavior and improvements in self-esteem, emotion regulation, and quality of life. Treatment gains were maintained at 1-year follow-up. Our discussion includes treatment implications and recommendations for future research.

Caregivers of young people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) or BPD features experience significant burden and distress and often lack effective coping strategies. A family environment of pervasive invalidation can contribute to the disorder and work against effective coping. Consequently, some psychotherapy interventions for young people with BPD or BPD features aim to incorporate caregivers in treatment to varying degrees.

The primary objective of this study was to investigate the neural basis of self-ambivalence, a phenomenon firmly established by behavioral research but whose underlying brain mechanisms have been less explored. Employing EEG methods and a modified self-reference paradigm, we analyzed event-related potentials using a linear mixed model to determine whether self-ambivalence processing exhibits a distinct neural representation. The results indicated that self-ambivalence processing primarily affected the late components (N2, N450, and P3), with N450 activation in the midline brain regions showing a significant positive correlation with scores on the Dialectical Self Scale.

Background: Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1) is a congenital neurocutaneous disorder. As NF1 is incurable and presents with a wide range of physical and mental symptoms, knowledge of neurocognitive and behavioral functioning can be an important aid in understanding their functional impact, and developing treatment options. To date, studies in children with NF1 have shown dysfunction in several domains, but much less is known about cognition and behavior in adults with NF1.
