Background And Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the ability of ex vivo derived Agatston, Volume, and Density-Volume calcium scores or calcium density measurements to differentiate between carotid plaques based on preoperative cerebrovascular symptomatology.

Methods: Thirty-eight carotid plaques were acquired from standard endarterectomy. Micro-computed tomography was performed on the ex vivo samples. Image series were downsampled to represent the resolution of clinical multidetector computed tomography. Agatston, Volume, and Density-Volume carotid calcium scores were then calculated using coronary methodologies. The fractions of low- and high-density calcification were also determined.

Results: The coronary calcium scores could not differentiate between carotid plaques from asymptomatic versus symptomatic patients. However, plaques from asymptomatic patients contained significantly lower fractions of low-density calcification and higher fractions of high-density calcification.

Conclusions: Screening for carotid calcium density in noncontrast computed tomography could reflect plaque stability.

Ultrasound radiomics predict the success of US-guided percutaneous irrigation for shoulder calcific tendinopathy.

Jpn J Radiol

Artificial Intelligence and Translational Imaging (ATI) Lab, Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, University of Crete, Voutes Campus, Heraklion, Greece.

Objective: Calcific tendinopathy, predominantly affecting rotator cuff tendons, leads to significant pain and tendon degeneration. Although US-guided percutaneous irrigation (US-PICT) is an effective treatment for this condition, prediction of patient' s response and long-term outcomes remains a challenge. This study introduces a novel radiomics-based model to forecast patient outcomes, addressing a gap in the current predictive methodologies.

Background: Altered neuronal timing and synchrony are biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease (AD) and correlate with memory impairments. Electrical stimulation of the fornix, the main fibre bundle connecting the hippocampus to the septum, has emerged as a potential intervention to restore network synchrony and memory performance in human AD and mouse models. However, electrical stimulation is non-specific and may partially explain why fornix stimulation in AD patients has yielded mixed results.

Purpose: Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome in which structural or functional abnormalities of the heart result in impaired ventricular filling or ejection capacity. In order to improve the adaptability of models to different patient populations and data situations. This study aims to develop predictive models for HF risk using six machine learning algorithms, providing valuable insights into the early assessment and recognition of HF by clinical features.

Carotid plaques-the buildup of cholesterol, calcium, cellular debris, and fibrous tissues in carotid arteries-can rupture, release microemboli into the cerebral vasculature and cause strokes. The likelihood of a plaque rupturing is thought to be associated with its composition (i.e.
