Background: Sepsis-associated liver injury (SALI) is a critical component of sepsis-induced multiple organ dysfunction with high mortality. Identifying biomarkers for risk stratification is essential. Red cell distribution width (RDW), indicating variation in red blood cell volume, has been linked to adverse outcomes in various diseases.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is a rare, life-threatening condition that may be secondary to drug-induced liver injury (DILI) and certain viral infections. We present the case of a 73-year-old male with a history of fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis with a progressive phenotype, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia, who was admitted with ALF potentially secondary to DILI. Prior to admission, he was receiving therapy that may be related to idiosyncratic DILI (I-DILI) and ALF, namely nintedanib, which appears to have a most probable relation to I-DILI in this case, considering it was the most recently started drug.

Organ transplantation, a critical treatment for end-stage organ failure, has witnessed significant advancements due to the integration of improved surgical techniques, immunosuppressive therapies, and donor-recipient matching. This review explores the progress of organ preservation, focusing on the shift from static cold storage (SCS) to advanced machine perfusion techniques such as hypothermic (HMP) and normothermic machine perfusion (NMP). Although SCS has been the standard approach, its limitations in preserving marginal organs and preventing ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) have led to the adoption of HMP and NMP.

Methomyl (MET), a universally used insecticide, has many adverse effects on various organs in both humans and animals including the liver, kidneys, and heart. Betaine (BET), a natural antioxidant, has a protective role against many toxicants-induced cardiovascular disorders. The present study was designed to elucidate the molecular mechanistic way underlying the mitigating effect of BET against MET-induced cardiopulmonary injury and inflammation in rats.

Statin-induced liver injury has been widely described. However, cases of clinically significant liver injury are rare. We present a 56-year-old woman who developed atorvastatin-induced grade III acute liver injury with concurrent rhabdomyolysis that worsened after rechallenging, which highlighted the need for pharmacovigilance with statins.
