Article Abstract

A novel hybrid dynamical system comprising a continuous and a discrete state is introduced and shown to exhibit chaotic dynamics. The system includes an unstable first-order filter subject to asynchronous switching of a set point according to a feedback rule. Regular samples of the continuous state yield a one-dimensional return map that is a tent function. An exact analytic solution is derived using a nonlinear transformation of a previously solved chaotic oscillator. Conjugacy to a symbolic dynamics is shown, and a practical realization of the system in an electronic circuit is demonstrated.

Purpose: is the main etiologic agent implicated in primary amoebic meningoencephalitis (PAM). It is also known as the brain-eating amoeba because of the severe brain inflammation following infection, with a survival rate of about 5%. This review aims to identify infections and evaluate patients' progression.

Spontaneous capillary flow in rectangular microfluidic channels is employed in microfluidic devices for various applications. The exact solution for flow in a rectangular cross-sectional channel has a complex point that contains an infinite sum term. The flow depends on the depth-width ratio of the rectangular channel's cross-section, .

Chirality plays a crucial role in the pharmacological activity of triazoles, a key scaffold in antifungal agents and various therapeutic applications. This study focuses on optimizing the enantiomeric resolution of chiral triazoles using supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) and 10 different columns, either immobilized or coated, chlorinated or nonchlorinated, cellulose or amylose-based chiral stationary phases (CSPs). Four novel triazoles and two marketed ones (tebuconazole and hexaconazole) were separated to determine optimal resolution conditions.

Importance: Cutaneous pyogenic granulomas (PGs) are commonly encountered, benign, vascular tumors, in which epidemiologic factors have been variably reported, in part, due to sample size limitations and a focus on either adult or pediatric patients.

Objective: To assemble a large dataset of pathologically diagnosed PGs across the continuum of age and investigate patterns of PGs by demographic factors, including age, sex, and anatomical location.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This retrospective case series included case reports of patients with pathologically confirmed PGs of cutaneous origin reported between April 1, 2010, to March 31, 2020.

A liquid drop resting on a soft substrate is numerically simulated as an energy minimization problem. The elastic substrate is modeled as a cubic lattice of mass-springs, to which an energy term controlling the change of volume is associated. The interfacial energy between three phases of solid, liquid, and vapor is also introduced.
