Contemporary sequencing technologies, Oxford Nanopore in particular, provide a way to sequence multiple samples during single run using molecular barcodes. Specific circumstances, however, can make barcoding undesirable or unaffordable. Here, we introduce Barapost: a command-line toolkit that demultiplexes long nucleotide sequences relying on taxonomic annotation instead of barcoding.

Screening potential diagnostic biomarkers for PLA2R‑associated idiopathic membranous nephropathy by WGCNA analysis and LASSO algorithm.

Adult nephrotic syndrome is primarily caused by membranous nephropathy (MN), with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) being a prominent subtype. The onset of phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R1)-associated IMN is critically linked to M-type PLA2R1 exposure, yet the mechanism underlying glomerular injury remains unclear. In this study, membranous nephropathy datasets (GSE115857, GSE200828) were retrieved from GEO.

Identification and functional characterization of AsWRKY9, a WRKY transcription factor modulating alliin biosynthesis in garlic (Allium sativum L.).

Background: The variations in alliin content are a crucial criterion for evaluating garlic quality and is the sole precursor for allicin biosynthesis, which is significant for the growth, development, and stress response of garlic. WRKY transcription factors are essential for enhancing stress resistance by regulating the synthesis of plant secondary metabolites. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating alliin biosynthesis remain unexplored.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) triggers a complex inflammatory response that impedes neural repair and functional recovery. The modulation of macrophage phenotypes is thus considered a promising therapeutic strategy to mitigate inflammation and promote regeneration.

Methods: We employed microarray and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to investigate gene expression changes and immune cell dynamics in mice following crush injury at 3 and 7 days post-injury (dpi).

Varicellovirus equidalpha 1, formerly known as Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1), is highly prevalent and can lead to various problems, such as respiratory problems, abortion, neonatal foal death, and neurological disorders. The latter is known as equine herpes myeloencephalopathy (EHM). Cases of EHM have significantly increased since the beginning of the twenty-first century.

Background: The prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is rising globally, particularly among children exposed to adverse intrauterine environments, such as those associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Epigenetic modifications, specifically DNA methylation, have emerged as mechanisms by which early environmental exposures can predispose offspring to metabolic diseases. This study aimed to investigate DNA methylation differences in children born to mothers with GDM compared to non-GDM mothers, using saliva samples, and to assess the association of these epigenetic patterns with early growth measurements.
