We studied the effects and mechanisms of action of NaHS, an HS donor, on bovine isolated mesenteric efferent lymphatic vessels pre-contracted with phenylephrine. NaHS induced concentration-dependent relaxation of lymphatic vessels. Removal of the endothelium reduced, but did not completely abolish the relaxing effect of NaHS. Application of NO synthase inhibitor L-NAME, soluble guanylyl cyclase inhibitor ODQ, blocker ATP-sensitive K channels glibenclamide, and a combination of blockers of Ca-activated K channels of small and intermediate conductance charybdotoxin and apamin attenuated relaxation of lymphatic vessels. Thus, HS produces a pleiotropic effect on lymphatic vessels; vasorelaxant effect is achieved by several parallel mechanisms. HS induces relaxation of lymphatic vessels and modulates the rate of lymph transport, thereby affecting the development of immune processes in the body.

Usefulness of Tapered Cutting Needles for Lymphaticovenular Anastomosis.

Lymphat Res Biol

January 2025

Department of Plastic and Reconstructive, Aesthetic Surgery, Toyama University Hospital, Toyama, Japan.

We report the usefulness of a tapered cutting needle, which has a polyhedral tip similar to that of a square needle and transitions to a round tip in the middle, for super-microsurgery. We have performed more than 500 lymphaticovenular anastomoses (LVAs) using tapered cutting needles. Therefore, we investigated the caliber of the anastomosed lymphatic vessels and veins, characteristics of the lymphatic vessels, the time required to perform the anastomosis, damage to the lymphatic vessels and veins during anastomosis, and patency of 30 recently performed consecutive anastomoses.

Bacteria in the complex and nontuberculous mycobacteria may affect a variety of animal species under human care and pose public health risks as zoonotic pathogens. A case of sudden onset of lethargy and increased respiratory effort in a 5-y-old, intact female reindeer () under managed care had progressed to severe dyspnea despite aggressive treatment. The animal was euthanized due to poor prognosis.

The lymphatic system plays complex, often contradictory, roles in many cancers, including melanoma; these roles include contributions to tumor cell metastasis and immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment as well as generation of antitumor immunity. Advancing our understanding of lymphatic vessel involvement in regulating tumor growth and immune response may provide new therapeutic targets or treatment plans to enhance the efficacy of existing therapies. We utilized a syngeneic murine melanoma model in which we surgically disrupted the lymphatic vessel network draining from the tumor to the tumor-draining lymph node (TDLN) while leaving the TDLN intact.

: Caries or iatrogenic thermal trauma of the teeth have a significant impact on the dental pulp structure connected with stimulation of angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis. Therefore, the aim of the study was to identify the difference in the rate of heat dissipation by vessels present in the dental pulp. : Freshly extracted healthy ( = 10) and carious ( = 14) molars and premolars were cut on a diamond saw and subjected to active thermographic examination and then subjected to lymphoscintigraphy and X-ray examination.

Somatic activating mutations in KRAS can cause complex lymphatic anomalies (CLAs). However, the specific processes that drive KRAS-mediated CLAs have yet to be fully elucidated. Here, we used single-cell RNA sequencing to construct an atlas of normal and KrasG12D-malformed lymphatic vessels.
