A Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, motile bacterial strain, TPQG1-4, was isolated from the leaf of Cyclobalanopsis patelliformis with spot disease. The isolate was investigated using the polyphasic taxonomic approach. 16S rRNA gene sequencing and analyzing revealed that the novel strain shares the highest sequence similarity with Stenotrophomonas lactitubi M15 (99.6%), Stenotrophomonas indicatrix WS40 (99.4%), Stenotrophomonas maltophilia IAM 12423 (99.2%) and Stenotrophomonas pavanii LMG 25348 (99.0%). In phylogenetic trees based on 16S rRNA gene sequences, the novel strain branched independently from other species of Stenotrophomonas. Average nucleotide identity values between the novel isolate and S. lactitubi M15, S. indicatrix WS40, S. maltophilia IAM 12423, S. pavanii LMG 25348, and Pseudomonas geniculata ATCC 19374 were 87.2%, 87.3%, 86.3%, 88.0%, and 81.3%, respectively, suggesting the isolate was a novel species of the genus Stenotrophomonas. The DNA G + C content of TPQG1-4 is 67.1 mol%. The major fatty acids were iso-C (25.4%) and anteiso-C (17.0%). The polar lipids of TPQG1-4 included phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, amino phospholipid and phospholipid. Based on phenotypic and genotypic characteristics, the strain represents a novel species in the genus Stenotrophomonas, for which the name Stenotrophomonas cyclobalanopsidis sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is TPQG1-4 (= CFCC 15341 = LMG 31208).

Background: Initial antimicrobial therapy for pneumonia is frequently empirical and resistance to antimicrobial agents represents a great challenge to the treatment of patients hospitalized with pneumonia. We evaluated the frequency and antimicrobial susceptibility of Gram-negative bacteria causing pneumonia in US hospitals.
Methods: Bacterial isolates were consecutively collected (1/patient) from patients hospitalized with pneumonia and the susceptibility of Gram-negative bacilli (3,911 Enterobacterales and 2,753 non-fermenters) was evaluated by broth microdilution in a monitoring laboratory.

Formate is an important solar fuel, with large application potential in bioconversion. Especially, the win-win collaboration is achieved when formate is applied to the cultivation of microalgae, which combines the advantages from both artificial and natural photosynthesis. However, the inhibition of formate on the photosynthetic electron transport hinders the application of formate at high concentrations.

Bacteria from the complex (Smc) are important multidrug-resistant pathogens that cause a broad range of infections. Smc is genomically diverse and has been classified into 23 lineages. Lineage Sm6 is the most common among sequenced strains, but it is unclear why this lineage has evolved to be dominant.

Drought stress during the plant's growing season is a serious constraint to plant establishment in arid and semiarid Mediterranean ecosystems. Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) as environmentally friendly and innovative management approach can be used to produce seedlings better adapted to these environments. We tested native PGPR strains isolated from drought-tolerant tree and shrub species originating from two climatically contrasting regions: hot-dry (Dehloran) and milder Mediterranean climate (Ilam).
