Plants rely on innate immunity to perceive and ward off microbes and pests, and are able to overcome the majority of invading microorganisms. Even so, specialized pathogens overcome plant defenses, posing a persistent threat to crop and food security worldwide, raising the need for agricultural products with broad, efficient resistance. Here we report a specific mutation in a tomato (S. lycopersicum) helper nucleotide-binding domain leucine-rich repeat H-NLR, SlNRC4a, which results in gain of function constitutive basal defense activation, in absence of PRR activation. Knockout of the entire NRC4 clade in tomato was reported to compromise Rpi-blb2 mediated immunity. The SlNRC4a mutant reported here possesses enhanced immunity and disease resistance to a broad-spectrum of pathogenic fungi, bacteria and pests, while lacking auto-activated HR or negative effects on plant growth and crop yield, providing promising prospects for agricultural adaptation in the war against plant pathogens that decrease productivity.

Objective: The aim was to assess fertility, sexual function and sexual quality of life in males with Hirschsprung's disease (HSCR) in the Nordic countries with a cross-sectional study using self-reported validated questionnaires.
Summary Background Data: Data on fertility and sexual function in males with HSCR are limited.
Methods: This multi-center study targeted all males born between 1970-2003 who underwent pull-through surgery at a pediatric surgery center in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, or Finland.

Conjugative plasmids are widespread among prokaryotes, highlighting their evolutionary success. Conjugation systems on most natural plasmids are repressed by default. The negative regulation of F-plasmid conjugation is partially mediated by the chromosomal nucleoid-structuring protein (H-NS).

Spurred by the latest developments and growing utilization of zero-dimensional (0D) drug delivery and drug sensors, this investigation examines the possibilities of the 0D C fullerene for drug delivery and the detection of the anticancer drug chlormethine (CHL), the overabundance of which poses a significant threat to living organisms. This study employs density functional theory and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) simulations (AIMD) to evaluate and gain insights into the interaction mechanisms between pristine C fullerene, metal-metalloid (MM)-modified C fullerene (with Al, Fe, and B), and the anticancer drug CHL. It is observed that in the gas phase, the CHL drug molecule adsorbs onto the fullerenes in the following order: B-C > Fe-C > Al-C > C.

Shifts in temperature influence the thermodynamic feasibility of metabolic reactions, with Gibbs free energy (ΔG) serving as a key indicator of the spontaneity of reactions under specific conditions. By altering ΔG in response to temperature changes across various metabolite concentrations and cell types, we can gain insights into the thermodynamic properties of metabolic pathways and identify critical factors involved in metabolism and immune function.

Here, we show CBD and other cannabinoids are potent inhibitors of mechanosensitive two-pore domain K+ (K2P) channels, including TRAAK and TREK-1 that contribute to spike propagation in myelinated axons. Five TRAAK mutations that cause epilepsy or the neurodevelopmental syndrome FHEIG (facial dysmorphism, hypertrichosis, epilepsy, intellectual/developmental delay, and gingival overgrowth) retain sensitivity to cannabinoid inhibition.
