Purpose: Prior noncontemporary studies showed that oral cyclophosphamide is an active treatment of metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). However, cyclophosphamide is currently underutilized in routine clinical practice given the lack of survival benefit and the emergence of more effective treatments.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed our institutional database to identify patients with mCRPC treated with cyclophosphamide.

Colon cancer, as a highly prevalent malignant tumor globally, poses a significant threat to human health. In recent years, ferroptosis and cuproptosis, as two novel forms of cell death, have attracted widespread attention for their potential roles in the development and treatment of colon cancer. However, the investigation into the subtypes and their impact on the survival of colon cancer patients remains understudied.

In vitro cytotoxicity (irritant potency) of toothpaste ingredients.

PLoS One

January 2025

Department of Dental Materials Science, Academic Center for Dentistry (ACTA), University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Purpose: This study aimed to determine the cytotoxicity (irritant potency) of toothpaste ingredients, of which some had known to have sensitizing properties.

Materials: From the wide variety of toothpaste ingredients, Xylitol, Propylene glycol (PEG), Sodium metaphosphate (SMP), Lemon, Peppermint, Fluoride, Cinnamon, and Triclosan and Sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) have been selected for evaluation of their cytotoxic properties.

Methods: Reconstructed human gingiva (RHG) were topically exposed to toothpaste ingredients at different concentrations.

Objective: Rebound vertebral fractures (VFs) after Denosumab (Dmab) withdrawal have been documented, highlighting the need for further research into this phenomenon and the importance of a well-planned strategy for discontinuing Dmab.

Methods: From the TriNetX US network, we enrolled osteoporosis patients aged 50 years or older who had withdrawn from at least two doses of Dmab and compared them with a matched cohort who had received at least one dose of zoledronate (ZOL) before discontinuation. We analyzed hazard ratios (HR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) and conducted Kaplan-Meier analyses, along with subgroup analyses, drug discontinuation modification, and sensitivity analyses.

Chitosan-Functionalized Fluorescent Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticle Loaded with Methotrexate: Future Theranostics for Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

January 2025

Nano 2 Micro Material Design Lab, Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology, IIT (BHU), Varanasi 221005, India.

Herein, fluorescent calcium carbonate nanoclusters encapsulated with methotrexate (Mtx) and surface functionalized with chitosan (25 nm) (@Calmat) have been developed for the imaging and treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). These biocompatible, pH-sensitive nanoparticles demonstrate significant potential for targeted therapy and diagnostic applications. The efficacy of nanoparticles (NPs) was evaluated in MDA-MB-231 TNBC cell lines.
