Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) is a thermoplastic copolymer commonly used in the electronics, automotive, and construction industries. In the aquatic environment, the formation of microplastics from larger-sized plastic waste occurs naturally, induced by physical, chemical, and biological processes that promote the aging of these particles. Here, we investigated the interactions between the freshwater amphipod and ABS microplastics (10-20 μm) (pristine and after accelerated aging) over 7 days of exposure.

Background And Objectives: Multiple sclerosis (MS)-related disability in Hispanic people with MS is associated with inequities in social determinants of health (SDOH) as measured by composite indices of areal-level census data. Studies of individual-level measures of SDOH are lacking. This study examined the separate and joint effects of person-centered SDOH indicators and an area-level composite on MS disability measures.

Background: Most patients undergoing breast surgery with free nipple grafts lose nipple erection (NE) function. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nerve preservation and reconstruction with targeted nipple-areola complex reinnervation (TNR) on NE following gender-affirming mastectomy with free nipple grafting.
Methods: Patients undergoing gender-affirming mastectomy with free nipple grafts were prospectively enrolled.

Culture-dependent and -independent studies have provided access to symbiont genes and the functions they play for host sponges. Thus, this work investigates the diversity, presence of genes of pharmacological interest, biological activities and metabolome of the bacteria isolated from the sponges Aplysina caissara and Aplysina fulva collected on the southwestern Atlantic Coast. The genes for Polyketide Synthases types I and II and Nonribosomal Peptide Synthetases were screened in more than 200 bacterial strains obtained, from which around 40% were putatively novel.
