Evolution from static to dynamic label-free thermal imaging has improved bulk tissue characterization, but fails to capture subtle thermal properties in heterogeneous systems. Here, we report a label-free, high speed, and high-resolution platform technology, focal dynamic thermal imaging (FDTI), for delineating material patterns and tissue heterogeneity. Stimulation of focal regions of thermally responsive systems with a narrow beam, low power, and low cost 405 nm laser perturbs the thermal equilibrium. Capturing the dynamic response of 3D printed phantoms, ex vivo biological tissue, and in vivo mouse and rat models of cancer with a thermal camera reveals material heterogeneity and delineates diseased from healthy tissue. The intuitive and non-contact FDTI method allows for rapid interrogation of suspicious lesions and longitudinal changes in tissue heterogeneity with high-resolution and large field of view. Portable FDTI holds promise as a clinical tool for capturing subtle differences in heterogeneity between malignant, benign, and inflamed tissue.

This study aimed to investigate the incidence of subclinical mastitis (SCM), the implicated pathogens, and their impact on milk quality in dairy sheep in Greece. Furthermore, we preliminarily evaluated infrared thermography and the application of AI tools for the early, non-invasive diagnosis of relevant cases. In total, 660 milk samples and over 2000 infrared thermography images were obtained from 330 phenotypically healthy ewes.

: Accurate reconstruction of internal temperature fields from surface temperature data is critical for applications such as non-invasive thermal imaging, particularly in scenarios involving small temperature gradients, like those in the human body. : In this study, we employed 3D convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to predict internal temperature fields. The network's performance was evaluated under both ideal and non-ideal conditions, incorporating noise and background temperature variations.

The Chinese Guidelines for Ultrasound-guided Thermal Ablation of Thyroid Nodules (2024 edition) were jointly initiated by the Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Medical Association, the Interventional Ultrasound Committee of Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering, the Ultrasonic Intervention Committee of Chinese Colleges of Interventionalists, the Oncological Intervention Committee of Chinese Research Hospital Association, 37 multidisciplinary experts in interventional ultrasound, ultrasound medicine, endocrinology and thyroid surgery participated in the compilation of this guide, which expanded the depth and breadth of the perspective and enhanced the authority of the guide. Based on the systematic review of literatures related to ultrasound-guided thermal ablation of thyroid nodules and the professional opinions of experts, the guidelines define the indications and contraindications of thermal ablation, including pre-ablation evaluation and preparation, thermal ablation techniques and operational procedures, post-ablation follow-up, therapeutic effect evaluation, complications prevention and treatment, and the writing of medical documents for ablation. According to the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE), a total of 17 objective and comprehensive recommendations were given.

Advances in Machine Learning-Aided Thermal Imaging for Early Detection of Diabetic Foot Ulcers: A Review.

Biosensors (Basel)

December 2024

Academy for Engineering and Technology, Yiwu Research Institute, Fudan University, Shanghai 200433, China.

The prevention and early warning of foot ulcers are crucial in diabetic care; however, early microvascular lesions are difficult to detect and often diagnosed at later stages, posing serious health risks. Infrared thermal imaging, as a rapid and non-contact clinical examination technology, can sensitively detect hidden neuropathy and vascular lesions for early intervention. This review provides an informative summary of the background, mechanisms, thermal image datasets, and processing techniques used in thermal imaging for warning of diabetic foot ulcers.
