We have purified a 9 amino acid amidated neuropeptide, DPKQDFMRFamide, from whole adult D. melanogaster. This peptide exhibits sequence homology to the molluscan bioactive tetrapeptide FMRFamide and is a novel member of the FMRFamide peptide family. The gene encoding DPKQDFMRFamide has been cloned and characterized. It is present in a single copy per haploid genome, is expressed as a unique 1.7 kb mRNA species, and cytologically maps to 46C on the right arm of chromosome 2. Characterization of a cDNA clone indicates that the precursor protein is 347 amino acids in length and contains 5 copies of DPKQDFMRFamide, as well as 10 additional amidated peptides exhibiting varying degrees of structural relatedness. The Drosophila DPKQDFMRFamide gene and the Aplysia FMRFamide gene are ancestrally related; however, peptides display a higher degree of homology within a species than between species, suggesting intragenic concerted evolution of these neuropeptides.

Purpose: Congenital epiphora can be related to anomalies of the nasolacrimal duct. This study aimed to assess the distal end of the nasolacrimal duct and the outcomes of endoscopic treatment in children older than 12 months with congenital epiphora.
Methods: This retrospective analysis describes the clinical characteristics, management, and outcomes of symptomatic congenital lacrimal obstruction in 32 lacrimal systems of 23 children.

Background: Some of those infected with SARS-CoV-2 suffer from post-COVID syndrome (PCS). However, an uniform definition of PCS is lacking, causing uncertainty about the prevalence and nature of this syndrome. We aimed to improve understanding of PCS by operationalizing different classifications and to explore clinical subtypes.

Proteases are hydrolases that act on peptide bonds, releasing amino acids and/or oligopeptides, and are involved in essential functions in all organisms. They represent an important segment of the global enzyme market, with applications in the food, leather, detergent, and pharmaceutical industries. Depending on their industrial use, proteases should exhibit high activity under extreme conditions, such as low temperatures, e.

Plant parts such as roots, bark, leaves, flowers, and fruits that hold ethnopharmacological significance are naturally prone to microbial contamination, influenced by environmental factors like moisture and humidity. This study focuses on assessing the microbial load in the raw material of Tribulus terrestris (TT). The primary bacterium isolated from the pulverized raw material was identified as Bacillus haynesii through 16S rRNA sequencing.
