Versatile LaCoNiO Nanofiber Membrane for High Performance Oxygen Electrocatalysis over a Wide Temperature Range.

Small

December 2024

School of Materials Science and Engineering, State Key Laboratory of Material Processing and Die and Mold Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, Hubei, 430074, P. R. China.

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are key processes in numerous oxygen-involved applications over a wide temperature range. Despite advances in nanofiber engineering to increase active site density and catalytic efficiency for ORR/OER, conventional electrode fabrication methods often compromise the integrity of nanofibrous structures. Herein, a robust strategy is presented for the fabrication of LaCoNiO (LCN) nanofibrous membranes using optimized electrospinning techniques.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most frequent type of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally. Despite a thorough understanding of its biology, etiology, and epidemiology, an estimated 1.8 million new cases are diagnosed each year, and 900000 people die as a result of malignancy.

Experimental Measurement and Mathematical Quantification of Fixed-Charged Density in Rat and Pig Brain Tissue.

Cerebral edema is associated with poor prognosis because brain swelling within the rigid skull raises intracranial pressure, exacerbating secondary injuries following traumatic brain injury. Brain swelling can be characterized by triphasic biomechanics, which models brain tissue as a mixture of a deformable porous solid matrix with a negative fixed-charged density (FCD), water, and monovalent counterions. When brain cells die, the intracellular FCD is exposed, attracting cations into the cells.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts, tumor and radiotherapy: interactions in the tumor micro-environment.

J Exp Clin Cancer Res

December 2024

Radiotherapy and OncoImmunology Laboratory, Department of Radiation Oncology, Radboud University Medical Center, Nijmegen, the Netherlands.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) represent a group of genotypically non-malignant stromal cells in the tumor micro-environment (TME) of solid tumors that encompasses up to 80% of the tumor volume. Even though the phenotypic diversity and plasticity of CAFs complicates research, it is well-established that CAFs can affect many aspects of tumor progression, including growth, invasion and therapy resistance. Although anti-tumorigenic properties of CAFs have been reported, the majority of research demonstrates a pro-tumorigenic role for CAFs via (in)direct signaling to cancer cells, immunomodulation and extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling.
