Despite the potential of acrylic bone cement (ABC) loaded with chitosan (CS) for orthopedic applications, there are only a few in vitro studies of this composite with CS loading ≤ 15 wt.% evaluated in bioactivity tests in simulated body fluid (SBF) for duration > 30 days. The purpose of the present work was to address this shortcoming of the literature. In addition to bioactivity, a wide range of cement properties were determined for composites with CS loading ranging from 0 to 20 wt.%. These properties included maximum exotherm temperature (), setting time (), water contact angle, residual monomer content, flexural strength, bending modulus, glass transition temperature, and water uptake. For cement with CS loading ≥ 15 wt.%, there was an increase in bioactivity, increase in biocompatibility, decrease in , increase in , all of which are desirable trends, but increase in residual monomer content and decrease in each of the mechanical properties, with each of these trends, were undesirable. Thus, a composite with CS loading of 15 wt.% should be further characterized to explore its suitability for use in low-weight-bearing applications, such as bone void filler and balloon kyphoplasty.

Case Presentation: A 69-year-old woman was referred to our emergency department after an outpatient echocardiogram revealed a "thrombus-like" formation involving the right heart. Two weeks before she had undergone percutaneous vertebroplasty of the third to fifth lumbar vertebrae due to osteoporotic fractures.

The treatment of large bone defects remains challenging due to the lack of spatiotemporal management of the immune microenvironment, inflammation response and bone remodeling. To address these issues, we designed and developed a nanoparticle/hydrogel hybrid system that can achieve the combined and sequential delivery of an anti-inflammatory factor (IL-10) and osteogenic drug (icariin, ICA). A photopolymerizable composite hydrogel was prepared by combining gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) and heparin-based acrylated hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels containing IL-10, and poly(dl-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA)-HA nanoparticles loaded with ICA were incorporated into the composite hydrogels.

The "all-on-four" treatment modality is a treatment in which four implants are surgically placed in the completely edentulous jaw in order to restore immediately loaded implant supported fixed restoration. The aim of the present study was to compare clinical, radiological and prosthetic outcomes of immediately loaded maxillary and mandibular four implant supported cross-arch fixed denture prosthesis. A total of 112 edentulous patients who were rehabilitated for their complete maxillary and mandibular edentulism using All-on-four concept between January 2010 to August 2012 in four private dental clinics were included in this study for retrieve their data for marginal bone loss, implant survival rate, and prosthetic complication for a period of 8 years of follow-up.
