Background: The increase in the dual burden of HIV and cardiovascular diseases (CVD), calls for the provision of integrated HIV/CVD care. This study aimed to explore barriers and facilitators to the integration of HIV/CVD care within HIV care and treatment clinics (CTCs) in urban, Tanzania.
Methods: Between March and April 2023, we conducted 12 key informant interviews with healthcare providers at six HIV CTCs in urban, Tanzania.

Importance: The Southern Community Cohort Study (SCCS) Polypill Trial showed that a cardiovascular polypill (a single pill containing a statin and 3 half-standard dose antihypertensive medications) effectively controls cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors in a majority Black race and low-income population. The cost-effectiveness of polypill treatment in this population has not been previously studied.

This review traces the evolution of centrifugal blood pumps in mechanical circulatory support (MCS) systems. Initially met with concerns over blood damage and thrombus formation, centrifugal pumps have become crucial components in ventricular assist devices (VADs) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) due to their simplified drive mechanisms and adaptability. This paper outlines three generations of centrifugal pump development: first-generation pumps with sealing components, second-generation pumps utilizing pivot bearings, and third-generation pumps employing contactless bearings.

The discovery of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) has provided a new perspective on the centrality of RNA in gene regulation and genome organization. Here, we screened for lncRNAs with putative functions in the host response to single-stranded RNA respiratory viruses. We identify as a conserved cis-acting lncRNA up-regulated in three respiratory diseases to control the expression of its antisense gene , a key transcriptional regulator of the antiviral response.
