The aim of this study was to test the influence of salinity (1, 20, 40 and 80 mol m) on the transpiration efficiency (W = biomass / water transpired), lamina gas exchange and carbon isotope discrimination (Δ) of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Sultana) grown on own roots or grafted to a Cl-excluding rootstock (Ramsey; Vitis champiniL.). Growth of own-rooted and Ramsey-rooted vines irrigated with a salinity of 40 mol m was reduced by 55 and 12%, respectively, compared with vines irrigated with 1 mol m. At 1 mol m W of Ramsey-rooted vines was 1.3-fold higher than own-rooted vines (3.9 and 3.0 g L, respectively). Salinity resulted in a decrease in W of own-rooted vines (31% reduction at both 40 and 80 mol m). In contrast, W of Ramsey-rooted vines increased by up to 1.25-fold under saline conditions. Consequently, at 80 mol m W of Ramsey-rooted vines was 2-fold higher than own-rooted vines. To our knowledge this is the first demonstration of the potential of a rootstock to increase W of a crop species under saline conditions. The rootstock-dependent differences in grapevine W under saline conditions were not determined by differences in lamina gas exchange. Differences in W associated with rootstock may be attributed to differences in ion uptake and the energy requirements associated with ion partitioning and the formation of compatible solutes.

Both over-exploitation and exploitation reduction of groundwater can alter the conditions of groundwater recharge and discharge, thereby impacting the overall quality of groundwater. This study utilizes hydrogeochemical methods and statistical analysis to explore the spatial and temporal evolution characteristics and influencing factors of groundwater chemistry in the saline-freshwater funnel area of Hengshui City under exploitation reduction. The results showed that: With the exception of the deep freshwater funnel area in the western region, which exhibits a trend of water quality deterioration (Cl accounted for more than 25%), groundwater quality in the other funnel areas demonstrates an improving trend (HCO[Formula: see text] accounted for more than 25%).

The label-free shotgun proteomics analysis carried out in this study aimed to understand the molecular mechanisms that contribute towards tomato susceptibility to Xanthomonas euvesicatoria pv. perforans (Xep). To achieve this, comparative proteomics was performed on susceptible inoculated plants with the bacterium and the control group (saline solution) at 24 and 48 h after inoculation (hai).

Protein aggregation, a major concern in biopharmaceutical quality control, can be accelerated by various stresses during clinical handling. This study investigated potential aggregation risk factors during dilution process with syringe handling for intravenous administration. Using γ-globulin and IgG solutions as surrogate models of antibody therapeutics, we examined the effects of high sliding speeds and piston operations of the syringe on protein aggregation during saline dilution.

Purpose: To introduce and validate quantitative oblique back-illumination microscopy (qOBM) as a label-free, high-contrast imaging technique for visualizing conjunctival goblet cells (GCs) and assessing their functional changes.

Methods: qOBM was developed in conjunction with moxifloxacin-based fluorescence microscopy (MBFM), which was used for validating GC imaging. Initial validation was conducted with polystyrene beads, followed by testing on normal mouse conjunctiva under both ex-vivo and in-vivo conditions.

Background: Recent studies suggest that the anterior limb of the internal capsule may be an area of convergence for multiple compulsion loops. In this study, the role of different dopaminergic compulsion loops in the mechanism of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) was investigated by selectively damaging dopaminergic neurons or fibers in the corresponding targets with 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) and depicting the anatomical map of various compulsion loops located in the anterior limb of the internal capsule.

Methods: A total of 52 male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were exposed to either saline (1 mL/kg, NS group, n = 6) or quinpirole (QNP, dopamine D2-agonist, 0.
