Background: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a severe form of organ dysfunction and a common postoperative complication. This study aims to develop a predictive model for ARDS in postoperative patients with gastrointestinal perforation to facilitate early detection and effective prevention.
Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, clinical data were collected from postoperative patients with gastrointestinal perforation admitted to the ICU in Hebei Provincial People's Hospital from October 2017 to May 2024.

Background: Ascaris lumbricoides is a nematode that parasitizes the human gastrointestinal tract, and it is the cause of the most common helminthic infections worldwide. It predominates in areas of poor sanitation. Early diagnosis of this intestinal infection is pivotal to avoid its severe and lethal complications such as gut obstruction, volvulus, and perforation.

Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) is a painless and non-invasive method of examining the body's internal organs using a small camera that is swallowed like a pill. The existing active locomotion technologies do not have a practical localization system to control the capsule's movement within the body.

Fungal growth is common in intraoperative cultures of patients with perforated peptic ulcer (PPU) leading to the common use of empiric antifungal therapy, with current evidence not clearly supporting this practice. The goal of this updated systematic review and meta-analysis was to synthesize the effect of empiric antifungals in patients with PPU. Eligible studies were identified through a comprehensive literature search in the MEDLINE (PubMed) and EMBASE databases, following the PRISMA 2020 statement.
