The ferulic acid (FA) / monoglyceride (MG) mixture could act as a gelator to structure sunflower oil at the gelator concentration () ≥ 4 % and the FA/MG ratios () of 0:100, 25:75, 50:50 and 75:25. The rectangular FA and needle-shaped MG crystals in the oleogel interlock with each other to form a 3D network, restricting the flow of oil. The gel strength and rheological performance of the oleogel were positively correlated with and negatively correlated with storage temperature ().

An adjustable and scalable method for the continuous flow synthesis of cupric oxide nanoparticles (CuO NPs), targetted the reduction of their activity to synthetic biomembranes to inform the fabrication of nanoparticles (NPs) with reduced toxicity for commercial applications. By manipulating key factors; temperature, residence time, and the ratio of precursor to reductant, precise control over the morphology of CuO NPs is achieved with X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) confirming the formation of needle-shaped CuO NPs. One-variable-at-a-time studies reveal a relationship between the synthesis conditions and the characteristics of the resultant NPs, with CuO NPs varying controllably between 10-50 nanometres in length and 4-10 nanometres in width.

Determining the full five-parameter grain boundary characteristics from experiments is essential for understanding grain boundaries impact on material properties, improving related models, and designing advanced alloys. However, achieving this is generally challenging, in particular at nanoscale, due to their 3D nature. In our study, we successfully determined the grain boundary characteristics of an annealed nickel-tungsten alloy (NiW) nanocrystalline needle-shaped specimen (tip) containing twins using Scanning Precession Electron Diffraction (SPED) Tomography.

Color characteristics are a crucial indicator of green tea quality, particularly in needle-shaped green tea, and are predominantly evaluated through subjective sensory analysis. Thus, the necessity arises for an objective, precise, and efficient assessment methodology. In this study, 885 images from 157 samples, obtained through computer vision technology, were used to predict sensory evaluation results based on the color features of the images.

To achieve the accurate recognition of biomarkers or pathological characteristics within tissues or cells, in situ detection using biosensor technology offers crucial insights into the nature, stage, and progression of diseases, paving the way for enhanced precision in diagnostic approaches and treatment strategies. The implementation of needle-shaped biosensors (N-biosensors) presents a highly promising method for conducting in situ measurements of clinical biomarkers in various organs, such as in the brain or spinal cord. Previous studies have highlighted the excellent performance of different N-biosensor designs in detecting biomarkers from clinical samples in vitro.
