Sarcoidosis is an idiopathic, chronic, multisystem, granulomatous, inflammatory disease involving almost all organs. Sarcoidosis can occur with an atypical presentation of hepatosplenic involvement, like in the case of our patient. In this case report, we present a rare case of extrapulmonary sarcoidosis with isolated involvement of the liver and spleen in a 39-year-old Caucasian female. There is a possibility of this isolated involvement of an organ in the complete absence of pulmonary disease, which makes the diagnosis of sarcoidosis very difficult as it is usually not suspected. Ultrasound and CT are important in ruling out other differential diagnoses, but a definitive diagnosis is possible only on histological examination, differentiating sarcoid lesions from , primary biliary cirrhosis, metastasis, malignancy, and other granulomatous infections or diseases. Hence, the most credible criterion for diagnosis remains histology. After diagnosis, regular follow-up for systemic manifestations is recommended. Asymptomatic patients with hepatosplenic sarcoidosis have a good prognosis without any medical intervention, while patients with abnormal labs or symptoms must commence treatment.

Misophonia is a disorder in which specific common sounds such as another person breathing or chewing, or the ticking of a clock, cause an atypical negative emotional response. Affected individuals may experience anger, irritability, annoyance, disgust, and anxiety, as well as physiological autonomic responses, and may find everyday environments and contexts to be unbearable in which their 'misophonic stimuli' (often called 'trigger sounds') are present. Misophonia is gradually being recognized as a genuine problem that causes significant distress and has negative consequences for individuals and their families.

Purpose: To describe a rare case of infectious keratitis secondary to Brevundimonas diminuta, a gram-negative bacillus with fluoroquinolone resistance and rare clinical isolation.
Methods: A 50-year-old man with contact lens overuse presented with a large corneal ulcer and hand motion visual acuity. Initial treatment with fortified topical tobramycin and vancomycin yielded slow improvement, and initial culture grew Staphylococcus epidermidis, Staphylococcus hominis, and Corynebacterium bovis.

Highly abundant in neurons, the cellular prion protein (PrP) is an obligatory precursor to the disease-associated misfolded isoform denoted PrP that accumulates in the rare neurodegenerative disorders referred to either as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs) or as prion diseases. The ability of PrP to serve as a substrate for this template-mediated conversion process depends on several criteria but importantly includes the presence or absence of certain endoproteolytic events performed at the cell surface or in acidic endolysosomal compartments. The major endoproteolytic events affecting PrP are referred to as α- and β-cleavages, and in this review we outline the sites within PrP at which the cleavages occur, the mechanisms potentially responsible and their relevance to pathology.

In cervical cancer screening, cytology is used as a triage test to refer high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV)-positive women for colposcopy, but its accuracy is inadequate. The present study aimed to demonstrate that the presence of atypical cells with large vacuoles in the cytoplasm of parabasal cells, referred to as vacuolated parabasal cells (VPCs), which are observed in the Pap smears of HPV-positive women, is associated with specific HPV genotypes. Among 2175 patients, 310 with a single HR-HPV infection and cytological diagnosis of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) or atypical squamous cells not excluding HSIL (ASC-H) were included, of which 86 were infected with HPV16.
