The processes and ranges of intensive variables that control magma transport and dyke propagation through the crust are poorly understood. Here we show that textural and compositional data of olivine crystals (Mg/Fe, Ni and P) from the tephra of the first months of Paricutin volcano monogenetic eruption (Mexico, 1943-1952) record fast growth and large temperature and oxygen fugacity gradients. We interpret that these gradients are due to convective magma transport in a propagating dyke to the Earth's surface in less than a few days. The shortest time we have obtained is 0.1 day, and more than 50% of the calculated timescales are < 2 days for the earliest erupted tephra, which implies magma ascent rates of about 0.1 and 1 m s. The olivine zoning patterns change with the eruptive stratigraphy, and record a transition towards a more steady magma flow before the transition from explosive to effusive dynamics. Our results can inform numerical and experimental analogue models of dyke propagation, and thus facilitate a better understanding of the seismicity and other precursors of dyke-fed eruptions.

The sulfur species present in magmatic fluids affect the global redox cycle, the Earth's climate and the formation of some of the largest and most economic ore deposits of critical metals. However, the speciation of sulfur under conditions that are relevant for upper crustal magma reservoirs is unclear. Here we combine a prototype pressure vessel apparatus and Raman spectroscopy to determine sulfur speciation in arc magmatic fluid analogues in situ over a range of geologically relevant pressure-temperature-redox conditions.

The Oceanus Procellarum region, characterized by its vast basaltic plains and pronounced volcanic activity, serves as a focal point for understanding the volcanic history of the Moon. Here we present density models of the magmatic structures beneath Oceanus Procellarum, derived from Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission data. The models uncover pronounced linear magmatic structures along the Procellarum's western border and significant intrusions within the northern and southern Marius Hills.

This study uses a 2D high-resolution thermo-mechanical coupled model to investigate the dynamic processes of deep plate hydration, dehydration, and subsequent magmatic activity in ocean-continent subduction zones. We reveal the pathways and temporal evolution of water transport to the deep mantle during the subduction process. Plate dehydration plays a critical role in triggering partial melting of the deep mantle and related magmatic activity.

Background: Currently, Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors demonstrate additional effects beyond glucose control on the gut microbiota and circulating metabolites. The gut microbiota and metabolites have been found to be useful in elucidating potential biological mechanisms of pulmonary diseases. Therefore, our study aims to investigate the effects of gut microbiota and metabolites mediating SGLT2 inhibition in 10 pulmonary diseases through Mendelian randomization (MR) research.
