Immunomodulatory drug (IMiD) resistance is a key clinical challenge in myeloma treatment. Previous data suggests almost one third of myeloma patients acquire mutations in the key IMiD effector cereblon by the time they are pomalidomide refractory. Some events, including stop codons/frameshift mutations and copy loss, having clearly explicable effects on cereblon function.

Background: Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare complement-driven acquired hemolytic anemia with specific presentations of hemoglobinuria, abdominal pain, fatigue, and thrombosis.

Objective: To review the current therapeutic strategies for PNH, including anti-complement therapy and allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (alloHCT), focusing on the tailoring of the approach to the disease subtype.

Results: The outcome of alloHCT varies depending on disease severity, thrombotic history, and response to prior therapies.

Strain LCG007, isolated from Lu Chao Harbor's intertidal water, phylogenetically represents a novel genus within the family Rhodobacteraceae. Metabolically, it possesses a wide array of amino acid metabolic genes that enable it to thrive on both amino acids or peptides. Also, it could hydrolyze peptides containing D-amino acids, highlighting its potential role in the cycling of refractory organic matter.

Arthroscopic Removal of Traumatic Fractures of the Proximal Medial Trochlear Ridge of the Talus: A Retrospective Analysis of 18 Horses.

Vet Comp Orthop Traumatol

January 2025

Donnington Grove Veterinary Surgery, Newbury, Berkshire, United Kingdom.

Objective:  The objectives of this study were (1) to evaluate the need for flexed radiographs of the proximal medial trochlear ridge (PMTR) after trauma involving medial tarsus; (2) to evaluate outcome following arthroscopic removal of traumatic osteochondral fragments (TOCF) resulting from direct injury to PMTR.

Methods:  Records of patients with wounds to the medial tarsus were searched and those with TOCF of the PMTR included. Patient history, fracture etiology, preoperative diagnostics, and intraoperative findings were documented.

Conjugation plays a major role in dissemination of antimicrobial resistance genes. Following transfer of IncF-like plasmids, recipients become refractory to a second wave of conjugation with the same plasmid via entry (TraS) and surface (TraT) exclusion mechanisms. Here, we show that TraT from the pKpQIL and F plasmids (TraT and TraT) exhibits plasmid surface exclusion specificity.
