New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase (bla) acquisition by Gram-negative bacteria is a primary concern due to its broad-host-range distribution. This study investigated two potential in-vivo horizontal gene transfers (HGTs) of bla between Enterobacterales and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, initially indicated by polymerase chain reaction. Whole-genome sequencing showed independent parallel acquisition of two different bla variants (NDM-1 and NDM-5) in P. aeruginosa and Enterobacterales, respectively. The data show that short-read sequencing provides the necessary resolution to confirm or dispute HGT by the comparison of genetic elements surrounding the gene of interest, and thus provide a timely response to potential outbreaks.

Background: Primary Immunodeficiency disorders (PID) can increase the risk of severe COVID-19 and prolonged infection. This study investigates the duration of SARS-CoV-2 excretion and the genetic evolution of the virus in pediatric PID patients as compared to immunocompetent (IC) patients.

Materials And Methods: A total of 40 nasopharyngeal and 24 stool samples were obtained from five PID and ten IC children.

Background: Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) is recognized as a common clinical conditional pathogen with bla gene-mediated multidrug-resistance that is a significant threat to public health safety. Timely and effective infection control measures are needed to prevent their spread.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study of CRAB patients at three teaching hospitals from 2019 to 2022.

Solu Healthcare Oy, Kalevankatu 31 A 13, 00100, Helsinki, Finland.

Background: Genomic surveillance is extensively used for tracking public health outbreaks and healthcare-associated pathogens. Despite advancements in bioinformatics pipelines, there are still significant challenges in terms of infrastructure, expertise, and security when it comes to continuous surveillance. The existing pipelines often require the user to set up and manage their own infrastructure and are not designed for continuous surveillance that demands integration of new and regularly generated sequencing data with previous analyses.

Background: One of the main issues facing public health with microbial infections is antibiotic resistance. Nanoparticles (NPs) are among the best alternatives to overcome this issue. Silver nanoparticle (AgNPs) preparations are widely applied to treat multidrug-resistant pathogens.

Sporadic epidemics of coxsackievirus A4 (CVA4) have been reported worldwide. However, the lack of the whole genome sequence has restricted the study of the gene characterization and evolution of CVA4. In this study, four whole genome sequences and 17 VP1 sequences of CVA4 identified from Linyi, northern China, in summer 2024 were used for genetic characterization and phylogenetic analysis.
