Melanopsin, a mammalian G-protein-coupled photopigment, is a novel optical tool which enables studying astrocyte-neuron networks. Here, we describe the required guidelines to take advantage of this promising optical tool for functional neuron-glia studies. The selective expression of melanopsin in astrocytes allows triggering astrocytic Ca signaling, changes in synaptic transmission, and modifying behavioral responses.

The aim of this study is to describe genotype and phenotype of patients with bestrophinopathy. The case records were reviewed retrospectively, findings of multimodal imaging such as color fundus photograph, optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus autofluorescence, electrophysiological, and genetic tests were noted. Twelve eyes of six patients from distinct Indian families with molecular diagnosis were enrolled.

Intraoperative optical coherence tomography (iOCT) has been applied and studied in a variety of vitreoretinal surgeries for its feasibility, safety, and outcomes for years. Common scenarios include membrane peeling procedures, retinal detachments, choroidal-retinal biopsies, Argus implants, and subretinal injections. iOCT offers the surgeon a better understanding of the retinal microarchitectural changes and timely intraoperative feedback, directing a future view of precision surgery.

Background: Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a primary cause of evaporative dry eye disease (DED), which is often exacerbated by cataract surgery due to surgical trauma and inflammation. Thermal pulsation therapy (TPT) aims to enhance meibomian gland function and relieve dry eye symptoms. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of TPT in managing dry eye symptoms associated with cataract surgery.

Here, we introduce a catheter-based endoscopic probe designed for multispectral, quantitative monitoring of light-triggered drug release. This tool utilizes red-light photosensitive porphyrin-phospholipid (PoP), which is encapsulated in liposome bilayers to enhance targeted drug delivery.

Carbon dots (CDs) are promising candidates as oxygen photosensitizers, in cancer therapeutic applications due to their high quantum yield, superior chemical and photostability, low cytotoxicity and ease of chemical functionalization/tuning. Nitrogen doping can further improve oxygen photosensitization performance. Besides photodynamic therapy, however, the possibility to finely and remotely regulate the intracellular redox balance by using physical stimuli has been attracting more and more interest not only for nanotheranostic application, but also as a novel, fully biocompatible therapeutic tool.
