Slow maturation of visual pathways transmitting low spatial frequency (LSF) information may contribute to inaccurate facial emotion recognition in adolescence. We recorded ERPs from adolescents and adults to upright and inverted happy faces, fearful faces, and chairs, which were unfiltered, contained only LSFs, or only high spatial frequencies. P100s and N170s were larger for adolescents than adults, with the greatest effect size for LSF stimuli. For LSFs only, adolescents showed a larger N170 inversion effect for happy than for fearful faces, but adults showed the opposite response. Thus, immaturities in LSF pathways appear to impact facial expression processing in adolescents.

Using a novel unsupervised method to integrate multi-omic data, we previously identified a breast cancer group with a poor prognosis. In the current study, we characterize the biological features of this subgroup, defined as the high-risk group, using various data sources. Assessment of three published hypoxia signatures showed that the high-risk group exhibited higher hypoxia scores (p < 0.

Land use changes alter the capacity for the stable provisioning of regional ecosystem services, and the rational integration of ecological and economic benefits has become a critical challenge. The values of 11 specific ecosystem service functions and ecosystem service trade-off degrees were estimated. The Pearson correlation coefficient method and spatial autocorrelation were then utilized to investigate the relationship between these variables.

Hemodynamic processes from the portal vein(PV) to the inferior vena cava(IVC) were mimicked for three patients with portal hypertension(PH) and the effects of stent parameters on the outcomes of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS) were investigated through computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The liver region was simulated with porous media model and the spatial distributions of superior mesenteric vein(SMV) and splenic vein(SV) blood were solved through the Eulerian multiphase model. The present method is able to simulate the PH flow and predict the PV pressure, the stent shunt rate and the SMV blood proportion after TIPS treatment.

The emergence of spinon quasiparticles, which carry spin but lack charge, is a hallmark of collective quantum phenomena in low-dimensional quantum spin systems. While the existence of spinons has been demonstrated through scattering spectroscopy in ensemble samples, real-space imaging of these quasiparticles within individual spin chains has remained elusive. In this study, we construct individual Heisenberg antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 chains using open-shell [2]triangulene molecules as building blocks.

Capacitive dielectric temperature sensors based on polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) loaded with 10 vol% of inexpensive, commercially-available conductive fillers including copper, graphite, and milled carbon fiber (PDMS-CF) powders are reported. The sensors are tested in the range of 20-110 °C and from 0.5 to 200 MHz, with enhanced sensitivity from 20 to 60 °C, and a relative response of 85.
