Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disorder arising de novo or with an autosomal dominant transmission that typically presents either at birth or in early childhood, manifesting through distinctive clinical features such as multiple café-au-lait spots, benign tumors in the skin, bone enlargement, and deformities. In 1849, Thomas Addison discovered alterations in the adrenal glands at autopsy of three patients who had died with idiopathic anemia. Struck by Addison's work, Charles-Edouard Brown-Séquard demonstrated in 1851 that bilateral adrenalectomy in dogs was fatal. It was not until 1950 that the discovery of the hormones of the adrenal cortex, their structure and their biological effects allowed Kendall, Reichstein and Hench to win the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Objectives: A conservative oxygenation strategy is recommended in adult and pediatric guidelines for the management of acute respiratory distress syndrome to reduce iatrogenic lung damage. In the recently reported Oxy-PICU trial, targeting peripheral oxygen saturations (Spo2) between 88% and 92% was associated with a shorter duration of organ support and greater survival, compared with Spo2 greater than 94%, in mechanically ventilated children following unplanned admission to PICU. We investigated whether this benefit was greater in those who had severely impaired oxygenation at randomization.

Native joint septic arthritis (SA) is a severe, potentially life-threatening condition characterized by the invasion of synovial fluid and membrane by pathogens, most commonly bacteria. The rising frequency of intra-articular procedures such as joint aspirations and injections has led to increased concern regarding iatrogenic septic arthritis. This mini-review aims to summarize current understanding of the incidence, risk factors, bacterial etiology, and strategies for preventing SA associated with intra-articular procedures.
