Increasing ellipticity usually suppresses the recollision probability drastically. In contrast, we report on a recollision channel with large return energy and a substantial probability, regardless of the ellipticity. The laser envelope plays a dominant role in the energy gained by the electron, and in the conditions under which the electron comes back to the core. We show that this recollision channel efficiently triggers various nonlinear and nonperturbative phenomena-such as multiple ionization-with an elliptically polarized pulse.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies focus on creating hybrid systems of magnets and superconductors that exhibit topological superconductivity.
  • The research demonstrates that using Floquet engineering with antiferromagnetic layers and s-wave superconductors can induce chiral topological superconductivity through light interaction that disrupts time-reversal symmetry.
  • The ability to control these topological phases with elliptically polarized light offers a novel way to manipulate superconducting properties through related changes in valley pairs, making this approach promising for experimental exploration.

Non-Hermitian Theory of Valley Excitons in Two-Dimensional Semiconductors.

Electron-hole exchange interaction in two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides is extremely strong due to the dimension reduction, which promises valley-superposed excitonic states with linearly polarized optical emissions. However, strong circular polarization reflecting valley-polarized excitonic states is commonly observed in helicity-resolved optical experiments. Here, we present a non-Hermitian theory of valley excitons by incorporating optical pumping and intrinsic decay, which unveils an anomalous valley-polarized excitonic state with elliptically polarized optical emission.

Planck's law ignores but does not prohibit black-body radiation (BBR) from being circularly polarized. BBR from nanostructured filaments with twisted geometry from nanocarbon or metal has strong ellipticity from 500 to 3000 nanometers. The submicrometer-scale chirality of these filaments satisfies the dimensionality requirements imposed by fluctuation-dissipation theorem and requires symmetry breaking in absorptivity and emissivity according to Kirchhoff's law.

Bulk photovoltaic effect (BPVE) can break the Shockley-Queisser limit by leveraging the inherent asymmetry of crystal lattice without a junction. However, this effect is mainly confined to UV-vis spectrum due to the wide-bandgap nature of traditional ferroelectric materials, thereby limiting the exploration of the infrared light-driven efficient BPVE. Herein, giant two-photon absorption (TPA) driven BPVE is uncovered from visible to infrared in ferroelectric α-InSe utilizing wavelength-tunable terahertz (THz) emission spectroscopy.

Dissociative triple ionization of argon dimers in elliptically polarized two-color laser fields.

Using ion-ion coincidence measurements, we experimentally investigate the dissociative triple ionization of argon dimers in relative phase controlled elliptically polarized two-color femtosecond laser fields. By examining the kinetic energy release-dependent momentum angular distribution of the ejected ionic fragments, two distinct pathways, each associated with different intermediates, are identified. Control over the emission directions of the ionic fragments is achieved by varying the relative phase of the elliptical two-color laser fields.
