Antibodies targeting immune checkpoints, such as PD-1, PD-L1, or CTLA-4, have transformed the treatment of patients with lung cancers. Unprecedented rates of durable responses are achieved in an imperfectly characterized population of patients with metastatic disease. More recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors have been explored in patients with resectable non-small-cell lung cancers.

Durable and deep response to CVD chemotherapy in SDHB-mutated metastatic paraganglioma: case report.

Front Endocrinol (Lausanne)

January 2025

Division of Abdominal Tumor, Department of Medical Oncology, Cancer Center and State Key Laboratory of Biological Therapy, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Introduction: Succinate dehydrogenase subunit B (SDHB)-mutated paragangliomas (PGLs) are rare neuroendocrine tumors characterized by increased malignancy, readily metastasizing, and poorer prognosis. Here we report a case of SDHB-mutated metastatic PGL, wherein the patient showed significant tumor shrinkage and complete symptom remission following chemotherapy. We aim to contribute additional evidence to the existing knowledge associated with SDHB-mutated PGLs.

Multidimensional Personality Changes Following Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy in Patients With Alcohol Use Disorder: Results From a Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Clinical Trial.

Am J Psychiatry

January 2025

Department of Psychiatry, NYU Langone Center for Psychedelic Medicine, NYU Grossman School of Medicine, New York (Pagni, Zeifman, Mennenga, Carrithers, Goldway, O'Donnell, Ross, Bogenschutz); School of Life Sciences, Arizona State University, Tempe (Mennenga); Department of Psychology, New York University, New York (Goldway); Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Albuquerque (Bhatt).

Objective: Evidence suggests that psilocybin-assisted therapy (PAT) leads to durable shifts in personality structure. However, such changes have yet to be characterized in disorders of addiction. In this secondary analysis from a randomized controlled trial, the authors examined the effect of PAT on personality dimensions in patients with alcohol use disorder (AUD), hypothesizing that PAT would attenuate personality abnormalities in AUD and that reductions in trait impulsiveness would be associated with lower drinking.

Background: The gold standard of care for patients with severe peripheral nerve injury is autologous nerve grafting; however, autologous nerve grafts are usually limited for patients because of the limited number of autologous nerve sources and the loss of neurosensory sensation in the donor area, whereas allogeneic or xenografts are even more limited by immune rejection. Tissue-engineered peripheral nerve scaffolds, with the morphology and structure of natural nerves and complex biological signals, hold the most promise as ideal peripheral nerve "replacements".

Aim: To prepare allogenic peripheral nerve scaffolds using a low-toxicity decellularization method, and use human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) as seed cells to cultivate scaffold-cell complexes for the repair of injured peripheral nerves.

Objectives: To report the results of an international patient-reported survey that adds to the growing body of evidence surrounding the role of surgery in the management of a subset of patients with non-hydrocephalic symptomatic pineal cyst.

Design: An international web-based survey of health outcomes in patients with nhSPC.

Subjects: All survey participants who self-reported a diagnosis of symptomatic pineal cyst without hydrocephalus after radiological imaging.
