In this Letter, we present a design strategy for the realization of electrically powered bound states in the continuum (BIC) lasers. Despite growing attention of the optics community for BICs, practical uses of BICs in an active device are still unestablished. A large index contrast and out-of-plane symmetries that aid the formation of BICs are not trivial to achieve using conventional approaches for semiconductor laser design. Here, we propose a doping scheme to circumvent this issue. We also show that the introduction of material absorption due to carriers deteriorates the quality factor of BIC modes and show that a suitable compromise between electrical conductivity and optical loss can be achieved.

Doping of quantum antiferromagnets is an established approach to investigate the robustness of their ground state against the competing phases. Predictions of doping effects on the ground state of the Shastry-Sutherland dimer model are here verified experimentally on Mg-doped SrCu(BO). A partial incorporation of Mg on the Cu site in the SrCu(BO) structure leads to a subtle but systematic lattice expansion with the increasing Mg-doping concentration, which is accompanied by a slight decrease in the spin gap, the Curie-Weiss temperature, and the peak temperature of the susceptibility.

Magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene exhibits intriguing quantum phase transitions triggered by enhanced electron-electron interactions when its flat bands are partially filled. However, the phases themselves and their connection to the putative non-trivial topology of the flat bands are largely unexplored. Here we report transport measurements revealing a succession of doping-induced Lifshitz transitions that are accompanied by van Hove singularities, which facilitate the emergence of correlation-induced gaps and topologically non-trivial subbands.
