Transparent polycrystalline TiO thin films have been deposited on unheated glass substrates using RF reactive magnetron sputtering. Depositions were carried out at different glancing angles and with different total gas mixture pressures. The variation of these parameters affected the crystal phase composition and the surface morphology. Depending on the glancing angle and the pressure, rutile, mixed anatase/ rutile and pure anatase were deposited at low substrate temperature. Both hydrophilic and hydrophobic TiO were obtained, exhibiting fast photoconversion to superhydrophilic upon UV irradiation. The effect of the materials physicochemical properties on the wettability and rate of the UV induced superhydrophilicity is evaluated.

The concept of inert matrix fuel (IMF) has been proposed to utilize the energetic value of Pu and transmute minor actinides in nuclear reactors. In order to offset the initial reactivity of nuclear fuel, gadolinium (Gd) is employed as a burnable poison, owing to its high neutron absorption cross-section. To gain insights into the radiation stability and influence of grain boundaries on irradiation behaviour, 5 mol% Gd-doped ceria samples, sintered at varying temperatures, were subjected to irradiation using 400 Kr ions.

Photocatalysts composed of ZnSe nanorods were prepared by using a glancing angle deposition technique facilitated by electron beam evaporation equipment. To enhance the photocatalytic efficiency of ZnSe, a vulcanization process was introduced. The impact of various parameters, including curing temperature, duration, and nanorod length, on the photocatalytic performance was systematically examined.

Enantioselective discrimination is critical in several fields, particularly in pharmaceutics and clinical drug research. Chiral molecules possess unique charge transfer properties, showing an enantioselective preference for electron spin orientation when interacting with the magnetic surface. Here, we developed spin-selective charge transfer (SSCT)-based label-free surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) achiral magnetic substrates for the enantioselective discrimination of chiral molecules without creating asymmetric chiral adsorption sites.

Flexible thermoelectric materials are usually fabricated by incorporating conducting or organic polymers; however, it remains a formidable task to achieve high thermoelectric properties comparable to those of their inorganic counterparts. Here, we present a high zT value of 1.29 ± 0.
