Background: This study sought to understand the process of clinical decision-making for suspected pneumonia by emergency departments (ED) providers in Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Centers. The long-term goal of this work is to create clinical decision support tools to reduce unwarranted variation in diagnosis and treatment of suspected pneumonia.
Methods: Semi-structured qualitative interviews were conducted with 16 ED clinicians from 9 VA facilities demonstrating variation in antibiotic and hospitalization decisions.

The number of patients waiting for kidney transplants from deceased organ donors continues to increase. In this context, non-transplantation of acceptable kidneys is especially regrettable. Here, we review successful transplantation of deceased donor kidneys with anatomic abnormalities, intrinsic kidney diseases, and other ostensibly problematic conditions.

Firework injuries pose a significant concern during celebrations, often resulting in severe trauma that can adversely affect an individual's functional capacity and quality of life. The case highlights a young male who sustained an unwarranted incident after a malfunctioning pyrotechnic device detonated while held in his dominant hand. The patient underwent amputation of several digits while also salvaging the fifth digit and thumb, for which an open reduction and internal fixation were performed.

Design: Systematic review.
Data Sources: Five databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, EMBASE, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library) were searched electronically for literature published between 1 January 2000 and 6 April 2023.
