• Small pulmonary vessel changes are a unique imaging feature of COVID-19 pneumonia. • Autopsy studies reveal a very high incidence of peripheral pulmonary thrombosis. • Risk of thrombosis is high in severe COVID-19 despite anticoagulation. • Mounting evidence suggests immunothrombosis as a contributory cause of thrombosis. • Combined inflammation reduction and anticoagulation seems to be a rational therapeutic protocol.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of edoxaban, which is used in venous thrombosis, systemic embolism, and stroke, on an aortic aneurysm model and to demonstrate the pharmacokinetic and molecular effects of edoxaban through the induction of apoptosis.
Methods: In this double-blind experimental study, 21 Wistar albino male rats (mean weight: 290 g; range, 280 to 300 g) were divided into three groups: the sham group (n=7), the abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) group (n=7), and the AAA-edoxaban group (n=7). Edoxaban 10 mg/kg was given to the AAA-edoxaban group by oral gavage daily for 30 days.

Introduction: Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) with intraluminal thrombus (ILT) are suggested to be more prone to rupture than AAAs without. Prior studies indicate that the von Willebrand factor (vWf) plays a role in the formation of ILT since a positive correlation between ILT volume and vWf has been shown. vWf mediates the tethering of platelets at sites of endothelial injury, and the protease ADAMTS-13 cleaves larger forms of vWf, thus counteracting the thrombosis cascade and maintaining haemostatic balance.
