A new type of Li mineralisation in hard rock has been found to occur in the Valdeflórez area (Cáceres, Spain), where there is 111.3 Mt of resources and a mean value of 0.61 wt% of LiO. Lithium is mainly held by very fine-grained micas, important constituents of Ordovician psammopelitic rocks belonging to the Palaeozoic metasedimentary sequence of the Cáceres syncline. The mineralised zone has an elliptical surface shape with a dimension of ~ 700 × 500 m. Lithium-bearing rocks show a characteristic layered appearance, in which light grey quartz-micaceous laminae < 1 mm to some centimetres in thickness, with a variable ratio of quartz to mica, alternate with fine to very fine-grained, dark grey to black tourmalinite laminae parallel to the regional foliation. Subvertical quartz + (montebrasite)-veins that cut the regional foliation at an extremely high angle are also common in this area. Mineralisation and the associated veins are likely to be linked to the intrusion of the nearby Cabeza de Araya pluton. The infiltration of granite-derived Li-, F-, B- and P-rich aqueous fluids into the host rocks through fractures related to shearing processes is considered to be the cause of the formation of Li-rich micas and intense tourmalinisation at the expense of pre-existing phyllosilicates.

By analyzing the chemical characteristics of the formation water in the tight sandstone reservoirs of the P2x8 and P1s1 in the southern Ordos Basin, combined with rock mineral composition, reservoir physical properties, and well gas testing data, the genesis mechanism of formation water and its guiding role in gas reservoir development were discussed. The results show that the formation water is derived from the mixture of syngenetic seawater and meteoric water and has undergone remarkable modification by water-rock interactions, showing characteristics of Ca enrichment and Mg and SO depletion. The albitization of plagioclase in reservoir rock components causes Ca excess and Na deficiency in formation water, while the chloritization of albite leads to the increase of Na.

The titanium-bearing (up to 3.31 wt% TiO) hydrous andradite [CaNaKFe][Fe AlTiFeMgVMn]SiO(OH) was identified within intensely altered and weathered pyroclastic rocks in the Sierra de Bahoruco region in the Dominican Republic. It forms small isolated euhedral crystals, infillings of fissures and fractures, and large polycrystalline aggregates, in close paragenesis with clinochlore and calcite.

Phanerozoic orogenic gold mineralization at craton margins is related to the metasomatism of the lithospheric mantle by crustal material. Slab subduction transfers Au from the crust to the metasomatized mantle and oxidizes the latter to facilitate the mobilization of Au into mantle melts. The role of volatiles in the mobilization of Au in the mantle is unclear because of the absence of direct geochemical evidence relating the mantle source of Au to Au mineralization in the overlying crust.
