Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an Asia-prevalent malignancy, yet its genetic underpinnings remain incompletely understood. Here, a transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) is conducted on NPC, leveraging gene expression prediction models based on epithelial tissues and genome-wide association study (GWAS) summary statistics from 1577 NPC cases and 6359 controls of southern Chinese descent. The TWAS identifies VAMP8 on chromosome 2p11.

Background: The mycobiome in the tumor microenvironment of non-smokers with early-stage lung adenocarcinoma (ES-LUAD) has been minimally investigated.
Methods: In this study, we conducted ultra-deep metagenomic and transcriptomic sequencing on 128 samples collected from 46 nonsmoking ES-LUAD patients and 41 healthy controls (HC), aiming to characterize the tumor-resident mycobiome and its interactions with the host.
Results: The results revealed that ES-LUAD patients exhibited fungal dysbiosis characterized by reduced species diversity and significant imbalances in specific fungal abundances.

Historically, and mutations were believed to be mutually exclusive. However, over the past few years, there have been emerging case reports showing the co-existence of both mutations in a single case. The majority of these co-occurring alterations were detected in samples collected from patients with resistance to tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) treatment, indicating a potential functional role in driving resistance to therapy.

Gastric cancer remains a malignancy with high incidence, mortality rates, and poor prognosis globally. Osteoclastogenesis-associated transmembrane protein 1 (OSTM1), a transmembrane protein overexpressed in various tumors, has unclear functions in gastric-cancer progression. This study explores OSTM1's role in gastric-cancer proliferation and metastasis.

In this preliminary study, the long-term effects of calcium chloride crosslinking concentration on viability of 16HBE14o- human bronchial epithelial cells embedded in alginate-extracellular matrix (ECM) or alginate-methylcellulose-ECM hydrogels have been investigated. There is currently a limited understanding regarding the effects of crosslinking solution concentration on lung epithelial cells embedded in hydrogel. Furthermore, the effects of calcium chloride concentration in crosslinking solutions on other cell types have not been reported regarding whether the addition of viscosity and stiffness tuning agents such as methylcellulose will alter the responses of cells to changes in calcium chloride concentration in crosslinking solutions.
