Rev Bras Enferm

Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Published: March 2021

Objective: to evaluate the effect of implementation of hospital discharge planning based on the taxonomies of NANDA-International, nursing interventions classification (NIC) and nursing outcomes classification (NOC) for patients with heart failure (HF) or diabetes mellitus (DM).

Methods: quasi-experimental quantitative study conducted in a public university hospital located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Convenience sampling included 28 adult patients hospitalized for HF or DM with the nursing diagnosis Ineffective Health Management (00078), who received the following nursing interventions: Teaching: Disease Process, Teaching: Prescribed Medication and Teaching: Prescribed Diet. Before and after the intervention, the following nursing outcomes were evaluated : Knowledge: Diabetes Management and Knowledge: Heart Failure Management.

Results: the score of the nursing outcome Knowledge: Heart Failure Management went from 2.05±0.28 to 2.54±0.30 (P=0.002), and of the nursing outcome Knowledge: Diabetes Management went from 2.61±0.55 to 3.21±0.57 (P=0.000).

Conclusion: discharge planning based on the NIC improves the NOC score and may interfere in the health outcomes.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the effectiveness of a postoperative multimodal pain control protocol on perioperative pain scores in children undergoing decompression for Chiari type I malformation (CM-I).

Methods: This retrospective matched cohort study included patients < 21 years of age who underwent elective suboccipital craniectomy and C1 laminectomy for CM-I with or without duraplasty at a single center from January 2020 to July 2023. A standardized, multimodal postoperative pain protocol was implemented in August 2021 that did not use narcotic patient-controlled analgesia.

Background And Hypothesis: Sequential saccade planning requires corollary discharge (CD) signals that provide information about the planned landing location of an eye movement. These CD signals may be altered among individuals with schizophrenia (SZ), providing a potential mechanism to explain passivity and anomalous self-experiences broadly. In healthy controls (HC), a key oculomotor CD network transmits CD signals from the thalamus to the frontal eye fields (FEF) and the intraparietal sulcus (IPS) and also remaps signals from FEF to IPS.

Importance: Long-term nursing home stay or death (long-term NH stay or death), defined as new long-term residence in a nursing home or death following hospital discharge, is an important patient-centered outcome.

Objective: To examine whether the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with changes in long-term NH stay or death among older adults with sepsis, and whether these changes were greater in individuals from racial and ethnic minoritized groups.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This cross-sectional study used patient-level data from the Medicare Provider Analysis and Review File, the Master Beneficiary Summary File, and the Minimum Data Set.

Background: The mitroaortic intervalvular fibrosa is an avascular structure near the left ventricular outflow tract, between the mitral and aortic valves. Mitroaortic intervalvular fibrosa complications, such as tamponade, hemopericardium, and abscesses, are rare and often diagnosed postmortem. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic notably impacted pediatric patients with congenital heart diseases, who frequently presented cardiac complications including arrhythmias, elevated troponins, myocarditis, and heart failure.
