As pollution in farmland has a toxic effect on the growth of crops, which reduces their yield and quality. The effects of exogenous spermidine (Spd) on rice seed germination and seedling growth under As stress were studied. The results showed that exogenous Spd could promote the germination of rice seeds under As stress, improve the germination potential and germination rate of seeds, and promote the growth of seedling roots. The addition of Spd could increase the activity of catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) of rice seedlings and roots under As stress, and reduce the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in rice buds and roots. When As concentration was 25 μmol·L, adding 500 μmol·L and 1000 μmol·L Spd, MDA content in rice roots was decreased by 12.3% and 31.3% and CAT activity of rice shoots was increased by 105.1% and 101.4%, and CAT activity of rice roots was increased by 29.9% and 57.1%, respectively. The addition of Spd also affected the uptake and accumulation of As in rice. When the concentration of As was 25 μmol·L, adding 500 μmol·L and 1000 μmol·L Spd, the concentration of As in rice shoots decreased by 69.4% and 75.1%, and As concentration in rice roots decreased by 7.6% and 24.4%, respectively. Spd could therefore effectively alleviate the toxic effect of As on rice.

Enantioselective Degradation and Processing Factors of Seven Chiral Pesticides During the Processing of Wine and Rice Wine.

Department of Pesticide Science, College of Plant Protection, State & Local Joint Engineering Research Center of Green Pesticide Invention and Application, Nanjing Agricultural University, Nanjing, China.

Chiral pesticides often undergo enantioselective degradation during food fermentation. In this study, the enantioselective fates of seven chiral pesticides during processing of wine and rice wine were investigated. The results revealed that R-metalaxyl, R-mefentrifluconazole and S-hexaconazole were preferentially degraded during wine processing with EF values of 0.

Introduction: Patients with suspected bacterial infection frequently receive empiric, broad-spectrum antibiotics prior to pathogen identification due to the time required for bacteria to grow in culture. Direct-from-blood diagnostics identifying the presence or absence of bacteria and/or resistance genes from whole blood samples within hours of collection could enable earlier antibiotic optimisation for patients suspected to have bacterial infections. However, few randomised trials have evaluated the effect of using direct-from-blood bacterial testing on antibiotic administration and clinical outcomes.

Accurate quantification of neonicotinoid insecticides is pivotal to ensure environmental safety by examining and mitigating their potential harmful effects on pollinators and aquatic ecosystems. In this scenario, detection of neonicotinoid insecticide, thiamethoxam (TMX), is significant for safeguarding ecological balance and human health. Hence, we developed a highly sensitive electrochemical sensor for detection of TMX in environmental samples, utilizing a novel nanocomposite with superior electrocatalytic properties and integrating an optimized neural network for accurate data analysis.

Rice THIN CULM 4 (TC4) Modulates Culm Strength by Regulating Morphology, Structure, and Development.

Culm strength is crucial for rice growth, nutrition transportation, and structural resilience, which are essential for lodging resistance and stable production. In this study, we identified a rice thin culm mutant tc4, characterized by thinner culms and thicker cavity walls, resulting in weakened culm mechainical strength. Using map-based cloning, the candidate gene was isolated, and complementation and CRISPR/Cas9 experiments confirmed that a single nucleotide substitution in TC4 is responsible for the thin and brittle culm phenotype.

Background: Brugada syndrome (BrS) is a genetic heart disease that predisposes individuals to ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Although implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) and quinidine are primary treatments, recurrent BrS-triggered ventricular arrhythmias can persist. In this setting, epicardial substrate ablation has emerged as a promising alternative for symptomatic patients.
