Electrochemical conversion reaction based electrodes offer a high sodium storage capacity in rechargeable batteries by utilizing the variable valence states of transition metals. Thus, transition metal chalcogenides (TMCs) as such materials have been intensively investigated in recent years to explore the possibilities of practical application in rechargeable sodium-ion batteries; however, it is hindered by poor rate performance and a high-cost preparation method. In addition, some issues in regards to conversion reactions remain poorly understood, including incomplete reversible reaction processes, polarization, and hysteresis. Herein, a novel cagelike CoSe@N-doped carbon aerogels hybrid composite was designed and prepared by a facile and high-efficiency sol-gel technology. Benefiting from the surface engineering optimization, high charge transfer, and low-energy diffusion barrier, the CoSe@N-doped carbon aerogels exhibit a high pseudocapacitive property. Most importantly, the CoSe anode has been carefully investigated at different discharge/charge states by X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy technologies and density functional theory (DFT) simulations, which deeply reveal the capacity fading mechanism and phase transition behavior.

Constructing hierarchical porosity and designing rational hybrid composition are effective strategies for enhancing the electrocatalytic performance of hybrid catalysts for electrochemical energy conversion. Here, we develop a multistep "molecule/ion-exchange" strategy toward the synthesis of hierarchically macro/mesoporous Fe,Ni-doped CoSe/N-doped carbon nanoshells with tunable pore structures and compositions. Polystyrene (PS)@Co-based amorphous coordination polymer (Co-CP) core-shell particles with hierarchically macro/mesoporous nanoshells are first prepared by ligand-molecule-exchange etching of the outer layers in PS@Co-based metal-organic framework precursors.

ZIF-67-Derived CoSe/NC Composites as Anode Materials for Lithium-Ion Batteries.

Nanoscale Res Lett

As a typical metal selenide, CoSe is a kind of foreground anode material for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) because of its two-dimensional layer structure, good electrical conductivity, and high theoretical capacity. In this work, the original CoSe/N-doped carbon (CoSe/NC) composites were synthesized using ZIF-67 as a precursor, in which the CoSe nanoparticles are encapsulated in NC nanolayers and they are connected through C-Se bonds. The coating structure and strong chemical coupling make the NC nanolayers could better effectively enhance the lithium storage properties of CoSe/NC composites.
