High-level quantum chemical calculations are performed for the (NH)MO and (NH)MO species (M = Ti-Cu), extending our previous work on the bare MO ions. The potential energy curves along the M-O distance are constructed for the ground and multiple excited electronic states of (NH)MO and are compared to those of MO. We see that ammonia stabilizes the oxo states (MO) over the oxyl (MO) ones.

Wild chimpanzees drum on tree buttresses during dominance displays and travel, generating low-frequency sounds that are audible over distances of more than 1 km. Western chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes verus) in the Nimba Mountains of Guinea selectively choose trees and buttresses when drumming, potentially based on their resonant properties, suggesting that these chimpanzees are optimizing their drumming signals. We investigated whether male eastern chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes schweinfurthii) from the Waibira community in the Budongo Forest, Uganda, also show preferences in tree and buttress choice, exploring whether selectivity is a species-wide feature.

Is Teledentistry as Effective as Clinical Dental Diagnosis in Pediatric Patients?

Int J Paediatr Dent

December 2024

Department of Pediatric Dentistry, Faculty of Dentistry, Istanbul University-Cerrahpasa, İstanbul, Turkey.

Background: Teledentistry integrates telecommunications with dental practice, facilitating the exchange of clinical information and images for remote dental consultation and treatment planning. This approach enables dental care access across long distances, addressing the need for flexible healthcare solutions.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of teledentistry compared to clinical in-person dental diagnosis in pediatric patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The significance of forelimb morphology has been discussed with a focus on specific morphological aspects; nonetheless, the correlation of overall morphology, including various linear measurements, with respect to ecological preference and adaptation has not been extensively explored, particularly using multiple taxa. We investigated the morphological characteristics of the long bones in the forelimbs of mammalian species and their relationship with specific functional adaptations using 20 linear measurements and 22 terrestrial species from 7 orders. Principal component analysis and canonical discriminant analysis showed that the lengths of the humerus, radius, and ulna as well as the distance from the smallest width to the proximal and distal ends, and the deltoid tuberosity length distinguished four adaptations: arboreal, terrestrial, fossorial, and semi-aquatic.

Increasing electrode thickness is a key strategy to boost energy density in lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), which is essential for electric vehicles and energy storage applications. However, thick electrodes face significant challenges, including poor ion transport, long diffusion paths, and mechanical instability, all of which degrade battery performance. To overcome these barriers, a novel micro-electric-field (μ-EF) process is introduced that enhances particle alignment during fabrication with reduced distance between anode and cathode.
