Purpose: Recent studies have shown that cytokines secreted from adipose tissues play a role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). CTRP5 (C1q-TNF-related protein 5) is a novel adipokine that has been shown to be associated with glucose and lipid metabolism. Varying levels of CTRP5 have been reported in individuals with diabetes, obesity and coronary artery disease. The aim of this study was to examine serum levels of CTRP5 and to show the relationship with cardiometabolic parameters in T2DM patients.

Method: The study included 40 T2DM patients and 40 age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects. All the study participants were evaluated with respect to BMI, waist circumference, lipid profile, insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), serum CTRP5 levels, carotid intima-media thickness, and hs-CRP.

Results: No statistically significant differences were found between the control group and the diabetic group in terms of age, sex, or BMI. Serum CTRP5 levels (T2DM = 94.55 ± 28.70 ng/ml, control = 76.02 ± 27.22 ng/ml, P = 0.004*) were significantly higher in the group of newly diagnosed diabetic patients. A positive correlation was found between CTRP5 and the cardiometabolic parameters of carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), hs-CRP, HOMA-IR and BMI. Regression analysis results showed that CTRP5 levels were independently correlated with insulin resistance estimated by HOMA-IR.

Conclusion: Serum CTRP5 levels were correlated with cardiometabolic parameters and could therefore be a promising indicator of metabolic status and a possible biomarker of insulin resistance. However, the contradictory results reported in different studies indicate the need for further research to assess the significance of CTRP5 for diagnosis and monitoring of treatment efficacy.

Introduction: Many patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) also experience thyroid disorders. There is a notable similarity in energy metabolism among PCOS, C1q/tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-related proteins (CTRP-5)deficiency, C3a/desArg (also known as acylation-stimulating protein (ASP)) deficiency, and hypothyroidism. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum levels of these factors and hypothyroidism in patients with PCOS.

Improved gene therapy for MFRP deficiency-mediated retinal degeneration by knocking down endogenous bicistronic and transcript.

The membrane frizzled-related protein () and C1-tumor necrosis factor related protein 5 () genes are transcribed as a bicistronic unit and dysregulation of either gene is associated with retinal degeneration in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) cells. However, the mechanisms that regulate the expression of the bicistronic transcript remain controversial. Here, we identified a microRNA-based negative feedback loop that helps maintain a normal expression level of the bicistronic and transcript.

Aim: Previous studies have focused on the order of endurance and resistance training when performing concurrent training (CT). However, no study has compared the effects of combined training with CT orders on inflammatory markers, muscular performance, and body composition in overweight and obese males. Therefore, the purpose of the current study was to compare the effects of 12 weeks of CT and combined training on the aforementioned markers in overweight and obese males.

Background And Aims: This study investigates the expression of novel adipocytokines and inflammatory cells infiltration in epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) between 27 coronary artery disease (CAD) and 21 non-CAD (NCAD) patients enrolled from September 2020 to September 2021.

Methods And Results: Serum, gene, and protein expression levels of the novel adipocytokines were determined using ELISA, RT-qPCR, and western blot analyses. The number of blood vessels and adipocytes morphology were measured via hematoxylin-eosin staining, and inflammatory cells infiltration was examined via immunohistochemistry.

Aerobic exercise is an effective therapeutic strategy to manage metabolic disorders. However, the mechanisms of aerobic exercise-induced improvements in metabolic diseases are not completely understood. Complement C1q/tumor necrosis factor-related protein (CTRP) 1, CTRP3, CTRP5, and CTRP9 have important roles in improving metabolic disorders via the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase signaling pathway.
