Sevelamer is a non-absorbable polymer used to treat hyperphosphatemia in individuals with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing hemodialysis. The deposition of sevelamer crystals in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, especially in the colon, can cause mucosal inflammation, pseudopolyps, ulceration, ischemia, or necrosis. Owing to its rarity and lack of physician awareness, the actual incidence and prevalence of sevelamer-induced gastrointestinal mucosal injury (SIGMI) remain unknown.

Study Question: Does a human fallopian tube (HFT) organoid model offer a favourable apical environment for human sperm survival and motility?
Summary Answer: After differentiation, the apical compartment of a new HFT organoid model provides a favourable environment for sperm motility, which is better than commercial media.
What Is Known Already: HFTs are the site of major events that are crucial for achieving an ongoing pregnancy, such as gamete survival and competence, fertilization steps, and preimplantation embryo development. In order to better understand the tubal physiology and tubal factors involved in these reproductive functions, and to improve still suboptimal in vitro conditions for gamete preparation and embryo culture during IVF, we sought to develop an HFT organoid model from isolated adult stem cells to allow spermatozoa co-culture in the apical compartment.

: Colon capsule endoscopy (CCE) is becoming more widely available across Europe, but its uptake is slow due to the need for follow-up colonoscopy for therapeutic procedures and biopsies, which impacts its cost-effectiveness. One of the major factors driving the conversion to colonoscopy is the detection of excess polyps in CCE that cannot be matched during subsequent colonoscopy. The capsule's rocking motion, which can lead to duplicate reporting of the same polyp when viewed from different angles, is likely a key contributor.

Here, we show that these IBD hallmarks can be replicated using human Organ Chips lined by IBD patient-derived colon epithelial cells interfaced with matched fibroblasts cultured under flow. Use of heterotypic tissue recombinants revealed that IBD fibroblasts are the primary drivers of multiple IBD symptoms.

A considerable amount of recent research has focused on the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in colorectal cancer (CRC), aiming to improve outcomes in CRC. However, AI for young onset colorectal cancer (yoCRC)-defined as colorectal cancer in patients less than 50 years old-is not nearly as explored, and its role in the prevention, detection, and management of yoCRC remains largely unknown. To address this gap, we performed an integrative review on AI in yoCRC.
