Silicon carbide (SiC) and SiC/SiC composites are important candidate materials for use in the nuclear industry. Coarse grain models are the only tools capable of modelling defect accumulation under different irradiation conditions at a realistic time and length scale. The core of any such model is the so-called "source term", which is described by the primary damage. In the present work, classical molecular dynamics (MD), binary collision approximation (BCA) and NRT model are applied to describe collision cascades in 3C-SiC with primary knock-on atom (PKA) energy in the range 1-100 keV. As such, BCA and NRT are benchmarked against MD. Particular care was taken to account for electronic stopping and the use of a threshold displacement energy consistent with density functional theory and experiment. Models and regressions are developed to characterize the primary damage in terms of number of stable Frenkel pairs and their cluster size distribution, anti-sites, and defect type. As such, an accurate cascade database is developed with simple descriptors. One of the main results shows that the defect cluster size distribution follows the geometric distribution rather than a power law.

Vulvar adenocarcinoma of the intestinal type (VAIt) is a rare subtype of primary vulvar carcinoma, with ∼30 cases documented in the English literature. This study presents 2 new cases of HPV-independent VAIt with lymph node metastasis and discusses their clinical presentation, histopathologic features, and whole exome sequencing (WES) analysis. Both cases exhibited histologic features consistent with VAIt, including tubular, papillary, and mucinous carcinoma components.

Background: Persons with aphasia have difficulties communicating pain symptoms.
Methods: Thirteen observers performed multiple observations using the Pain Assessment in Impaired Cognition (PAIC15) scale for persons with aphasia during rest and transfer in persons with aphasia. This pilot study examined the user-friendliness of PAIC15 and preference for type of self-report pain scales with a questionnaire.
In our efforts to enhance sensitivity to PARP inhibitors, we identified clofarabine (CLF) as a potential therapy for drug-resistant ovarian cancer and nuclear trafficking of Cathepsin L (CTSL) as a treatment- responsive biomarker. Using PARP inhibitor-sensitive and -resistant OC cell lines, ex vivo cultures of patient-derived ovarian ascites (OVA), primary ovarian tumors, and xenografts (PDX), we found that CLF monotherapy induces nuclear CTSL (nCTSL) in CLF-responsive cells (CLF-r) and sensitizes them to PARP inhibitors olaparib and rucaparib. In CLF non-responsive cells (CLF-nr), a combination of CLF with olaparib is necessary for nCTSL trafficking and synergy.

However, up to 90% of survivors experience RT-induced cognitive impairment. Emerging evidence links cognitive decline to RT-induced endothelial dysfunction in brain microvessels, yet studies of endothelial injury remain limited.
