Controlling the ordering of self-assembled nanostructures is vital in block copolymer nanotechnology but still presents a challenge. Here we demonstrated that the adsorption and ordering of amphiphilic rod-coil block copolymers on a substrate can generate well-aligned stripe nanopatterns by dissipative particle dynamics simulations. The effects of the copolymer concentration and the surface affinity on the formation of stripe nanopatterns were examined. The simulation results revealed that the well-aligned stripe nanopatterns with controllable thickness and stripe width can be obtained in the systems with higher copolymer concentration and surface affinity. An immersion coating experiment was designed to verify the simulation results, and an agreement is shown. The present work provides a strategy for constructing well-aligned stripe nanopatterns in a controllable way.

Due to its high durability and transparency, soda lime glass holds a huge potential for several applications such as photovoltaics, optical instrumentation and biomedical devices, among others. The different technologies request specific properties, which can be enhanced through the modification of the surface morphology with a nanopattern. Here, we report a simple method to nanostructure a glass surface with soft lithography and wet-chemical etching in potassium hydroxide (KOH) solutions.

The adsorption of heptacene (7 A) on Cu(110) and Cu(110)-(2 × 1)-O was studied with scanning tunneling microscopy, photoemission orbital tomography and density functional calculations to reveal the influence of surface passivation on the molecular geometry and electronic states. We found that the charge transfer into the 7 A molecules on Cu(110) is completely suppressed for the oxygen-modified Cu surface. The molecules are aligned along the Cu-O rows and uncharged.

Thin polymer films can become unstable and dewet on a non-wettable substrate leading to the formation of an array of droplets. This instability-mediated drop formation lacks spatial order on flat substrates, but it can be ordered for better combinatorial studies using patterned substrates. In this work, we studied the process of dewetting polystyrene (PS) films on grating patterned substrates upon solvent vapor exposure.

In this study, a chalcone-branched polyimide (CB-PI) was synthesized by the Steglich esterification reaction for selective recognition of the toxic peptide melittin (MEL). MEL was immobilized on a nanopatterned poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) mold using a conventional surface modification technique to increase binding sites. A stripe-nanopatterned thin CB-PI film was formed on a quartz crystal (QC) substrate by simultaneously performing microcontact printing and ultraviolet (UV) light dimerization using a MEL-immobilized mold.

The polymers can be either dynamically tethered to or permanently grafted to the nanoparticle to produce polymer-functionalized nanoparticles. The surface mobility of polymer ligands with one end anchored to the nanoparticle can affect the surface pattern, but the effect remains unclear. Here, we addressed the influence of lateral polymer mobility on surface patterns by performing self-consistent field theory calculations on a modeled polymer-functionalized nanoparticle consisting of immobile and mobile brushes.
