From river to groundwater: Antibiotics pollution, resistance prevalence, and source tracking.

Environ Int

January 2025

School of Environment, South China Normal University, University Town, Guangzhou, China. Electronic address:

The extensive use of antibiotics has led to their frequent detection as residues in the environment. However, monitoring of their levels in groundwater and the associated ecological and health risks remains limited, and the impact of river pollution on groundwater is still unclear. This study focused on the highly urbanized Maozhou River and its groundwater.

Carl C. Speidel (1919) and Ernst Scharrer (1928) were privileged witnesses of the encounter between neurons and hormones, a biological phenomenon that had been occurring in nature during millions of years of evolution, as Berta Scharrer started to unfold since 1935 on. The story of neurosecretion is intimately associated to that of the hypothalamus, such a "marvellous region", as Wolfgang Bargmann (1975) called it.

Endophytes typically coexist with plants in symbiosis and transition into the saprobic system as plant tissues senesce, participating in the decomposition process of litter. However, the dynamic changes of endophytic communities during this process and their role in litter decomposition remain unclear. This study tracked the microbial composition across the transition from live leaves to litter in (L.

Tissue microenvironments are extremely complex and heterogeneous. It is challenging to study metabolic interaction between the different cell types in a tissue with the techniques that are currently available. Here we describe a multimodal imaging pipeline that allows cell type identification and nanoscale tracing of stable isotope-labeled compounds.

Single-organelle visualization tracking natural glycosaminoglycans within mitochondria-lysosome crosstalk for inflammatory homeostasis.

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Cheeloo College of Medicine, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong 250012, China; National Glycoengineering Research Center, Shandong Key Laboratory of Carbohydrate Chemistry and Glycobiology, Shandong University, Qingdao, Shandong 266237, China. Electronic address:

Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), as natural products with diverse biological activities, play a significant role in regulating inflammatory homeostasis. Nevertheless, the mechanism underlying their intracellular anti-inflammatory properties remains unclear. Herein, we propose a single-organelle visualization tracking framework, leveraging an advanced fluorescent imaging technology combined with labeling methods to dynamically trace the subcellular regulatory mechanisms of GAGs in eliminating inflammatory markers, such as reactive oxygen species (ROS).
