The interplay of inertia and elasticity is shown to have a significant impact on the transport of filamentary objects, modeled by bead-spring chains, in a two-dimensional turbulent flow. We show how elastic interactions among inertial beads result in a nontrivial sampling of the flow, ranging from entrapment within vortices to preferential sampling of straining regions. This behavior is quantified as a function of inertia and elasticity and is shown to be very different from free, noninteracting heavy particles, as well as inertialess chains [Picardo et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 244501 (2018)PRLTAO0031-900710.1103/PhysRevLett.121.244501]. In addition, by considering two limiting cases, of a heavy-headed and a uniformly inertial chain, we illustrate the critical role played by the mass distribution of such extended objects in their turbulent transport.

Five alkali metal manganese(III) fluorophosphates, KMn(POF)F (I), RbMn(POF)F (II), RbMn(POF)(PO)F (III), RbMn(POF)(PO)F (IV), and CsMn(POF)F (V), were successfully synthesized using a hydrothermal method. The monofluorophosphate anion (POF) groups work as "chemical scissors" to promote low-dimensional spin structures with the aid of alkali metal cations. I and II had an = 2 uniform chain structure formed by corner-sharing -MnOF octahedra.

Background: Human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) possess regenerative potential due to pluripotency and paracrine functions. However, their stemness and immunomodulatory capabilities are sub-optimal in conventional two-dimensional (2D) culture.

Aim: To enhance the efficiency and therapeutic efficacy of MSCs, an -like 3D culture condition was applied.

A fluoroalkyl-containing electron acceptor (Y-SSM) is designed and synthesized to control the orientation of the benchmark non-fullerene acceptor Y6 in thin films. Due to the low surface energy of the two fluoroalkyl chains at the terminal part of Y-SSM, it spontaneously segregates to the film surface during spin coating, forming a monolayer of edge-on oriented Y-SSM. The Y-SSM monolayer leads to crystallization of the underlying Y6 to induce a standing-up orientation in the bulk of the films, which is strikingly different from pure Y6 films that tend to be a face-on orientation.

Three bisferrocene-based bis(acylthiourea) positional isomers, namely, 1,2-bis(ferrocenylcarbonylthioureido)benzene (1), 1,3-bis(ferrocenylcarbonylthioureido)benzene (2) and 1,4-bis(ferrocenylcarbonylthioureido)benzene (3), all [Fe(CH)(CHNOS)], have been synthesized via facile nucleophilic addition reactions of 2.3 equivalents of ferrocenoyl isothiocyanate with o-, m- and p-phenylenediamine, respectively. The structures of the three new synthesized isomers were fully characterized by H NMR, C NMR, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, elemental analyses and cyclic voltammetry.

Selenopeptides can be ideal dietary selenium (Se) supplements for humans. Currently, rice is not used much as a source of selenopeptides. Here, we executed the selenopeptidomics analysis of selenium-enriched rice protein hydrolysates using the full MS-dd-MS2 acquisition method and identified selenopeptides, including L{Se-Met}AK and other selenopeptides.
